Cry out to God for the Church

Who should cry out to God? The Bible shows us so many examples of people crying out to God. What role do we play as the individual in crying out for the Church?

Exodus 2:24; “And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.”

It is clear that the Bible teaches us that God hears each believer when he or she prays. However, who should pray when the church as a whole has strayed from God? I have heard it said that when the people cry out then God acts. That is true, but that is not all there is to it. God sending someone to bring the people back into a right relationship with Him precedes each example of the people crying out to God. Sometimes that person is an enemy as was the Pharaoh; sometimes that person is a Prophet like Isaiah. Church leaders cannot claim to be waiting on the people to cry out so that God will move. As individuals, we are to make a stand for Christ. I remember a Pastor once Preaching and He said that if the people would get right, then God would act. As an individual, I must seek God's face and repent, as a Pastor, I must cry out to God for the church. Acts 4:18-20 says, “And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. However, Peter and John answered and said unto them, whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” We should tell what we have seen. It is not just the Pastor's job to tell others about Jesus. As individuals we may be the one God desires to use as He calls His people back to a relationship with Him. We must tell others about Christ and we should cry out to God for the people of God. This is especially true of leaders in the church. The Church leader should be the first one to cry out for the people of God. Tell someone about Jesus, then go to Jesus on his or her behalf, and cry out for them to Him.
