Proverbs 16:31 Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.

Do not be discouraged by your gray hair even when you are surrounded by a culture that values youth. Take pride in your years and refuse to be ashamed of your age. You have much to offer those around you, bestowing others with your wisdom. Stop plucking and dying your gray hairs! They are a gift from God, a crown of glory!

When I first began to get gray hairs, which I still don't have a whole lot, my daughter used to pull them out. It was her idea, and she seemed to get great enjoyment out of doing that, and I didn't mind. But, then she got older and I got older and then there were too many to pluck out anyway. I have refused to put anything on my hair that might cover the gray I do have. I have never been ashamed of my age or my gray hairs or afraid to tell people how old I am. Yet, I don't think I consciously thought about the gray hairs being a gift from God.

I wonder, though, what the writer of this proverb had in mind when he said that gray hair is attained by a righteous life, since we all gray as we age, and not everyone lives a righteous life. I wonder if he could have been speaking more metaphorically about gray hair as maybe a sign of maturity.

You're absolutely right. The gray hairs the Lord is pertaining too is that as we grow older by age we should also be leading to maturity in the righteousness that we have in Jesus Christ. I always love talking to people who not only have gray hairs but those whom out of the joy and bitterness of their experiences they still share how wonderful God is in their lives. I as part of the younger generation take delight in learning from other people's lives how God carried everyone through to victory. I praise God for you and may you grow more in maturity everyday!

i am proud of my hair, and don't want it to leave me.Truth is i honour it with goat's milk shampoo and vigorous scalp massage....hope i am not alone.

Thank you. To God be the glory! He is the reason I live, grow and mature in him.
