Brothers and Sisters,

BE NOT DECEIVED

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

I used to honestly believe that I was just not capable of reading the Bible. I thought I could never understand what “all those words” meant, much less remember them. I certainly have not deduced the meaning of every word in the bible, but I am gaining a better understanding each time I delve into those precious pages.

I recently recalled being about 5 years old, sitting in a baptist church classroom reciting verses for my Sunday school teacher: one verse a week. Even as a child, I managed to remember most, if not every word of my assigned verse. I only went to that particular church a handful of times. Nevertheless, the seed was sown. I was a little girl who loved God and wanted to please Him. By his grace, his kind people walked me right up to Him, and sat me down. Of course I ended up turning my back on him for a time, when I ventured out into the big, bad world thinking I had a pretty good understanding of everything; that subject however, I will save for another time. I am ever thankful for my family; all the kind and tenderhearted people who have and continue to guide me through my life.

The first bible my parents gave me was a white, leather-bound version of the King James bible. Until my 30th year of life, I thought I would never be able to read and understand it. I always leaned toward more perverse versions of the Bible because I thought I would be able to make more sense of them. Boy was I wrong about that one! (Please do not be offended; look up the word “perverse.” If offended: my condolences).

I believe that books and words have manifold meanings. Think of us for instance. Our DNA is as a book, composed of various genetic codes: DNA is made of phosphorous. The word phosphorous, because of it's unique properties, is derived from the Greek phosphoros, which can be interpreted literally as “light-bringer.” Therefore, you and I are literally made of “a light-bringing” book full of instructions. (This thought makes my heart quite happy. I pray God bless the kind pastor who guided me back to the Word that I may receive my sight).

Folks, a girl can grow tired of arguing about this (especially considering that once you truly believe in the Word of God, it is not something you tend to doubt) but there are several reasons why I believe that the King James version of the Holy Bible is the only version that could have been inspired by God. First, I believe this version is the most accurate translation because completing this translation was no private endeavor. The King James version has no copyright laws that prevent people from copying the entire text whereas many recent translations ask that you write for permission to copy more than an allotted number of verses. I was also made aware that in order for a version of the Bible to be printed and copyrighted, it had to deviate from the original text at least “x” percent of the time. I think this is around 10 percent, but the point is that someone somewhere was more worried about making money, or a name for themselves, than about preserving the true Word of God. It doesn't seem to bother the publishers that they are selling people dangerous lies. Most importantly, I believe that the King James bible is the preserved word of God is because I can count on God, and “every word” of my bible tells me so:

I know how wrong I was before because at some point in my life, I accepted lies for truth. Thankfully God loves me, and he was kind enough to chasten me. I realized that if my Bible tells the truth, all I had to do was ask him in good faith for his guidance, instruction, and most importantly, His forgiveness. (Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent). If you read it, and it doesn't make sense, I encourage you to pray about it; ask God for understanding. With God all things are possible. There are parts of the bible that may be hard to accept, and understand but ask yourself: whose reasoning skills are greater? God's? Or Man's? I encourage you to give God a chance. The Lord himself will teach you what His words mean! Repent in good faith, and call unto Him. Search Him in His Word. You can even count on Him.

Proverbs 5: 7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

Jeremiah33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

This debate has been going on for many, many years, and is not about to be resolved here. I do however, believe that one should listen to whatever the Holy Spirit is leading him or her to do. If the Holy Spirit is telling you to read the KJV, then you should follow Him. I'm not getting that message from Him though.

God bless!

It is good to read several different versions of His word. When something stands out we can then look at it in another translation and gain more depth.

To be truthful - all bibles we have today are all re-worked over time. However God and His word never changes and He does a very praise worthy job at teaching His word in deeper depths to those who seek Him.
God Bless . oh and please be careful how much you say things like this - we aught not ever hinder the growth of others by making them feel they are reading a bad bible.

I am not here to debate sir. I just really thought this would be a good place to start sharing with others what I have come to know as true. This post was not meant to start an argument, just share my opinion and findings. Thank you for your input.

Sir in my own opinion: The Word is the truth. I am not here to argue. You and I are both allowed to hold our own opinions. I will stand firm on my opinion that other bibles are perverse. I will not argue about this; It is simply my stance. I am hindering no man sir. If I post anything here it will be from the true Word of God. All bibles do not send forth the same message, so I only stay in the pages of One. Sorry if you feel offended. Thank you for your input.

And some are certainly more perverse than others. This is similar to men, is it not? A lot depends on where a person and on where he has been. Likewise the spirit of those who are translating makes a difference in the content of the translation. But, I am on your side in this, at least from an English point of view. I read scripture in two other languages regularly and the one that best works together with them according to the Spirit in me is the KJV. I know as you do that other will disagree and it's not our job to change them. If a person needs to be changed that is God's job. He, when it comes down to it, is the One who gives the increase. He may use you or me or another as the vehicle to deliver His increase.

Give God the glory for He alone is always worthy... even when He chooses to work through us.

Ah come on now settle down will ya !! lol
The different translations are just that - worded different because we all have different levels of understanding.
You can beleive what you wish - You claim you stand firm on your Opinion - that is just it....it is your opinion and that is why i said please becasreful going around making such claims.

You speak this to a young beleiver who is being taught well with one of the versions you feel is wrong then you may cause them to question things - and hence hinder their growth or belief in that time.

God Bless

I fear you misunderstand me! I do not wish to hinder you or any part of the body of Christ. Also, I'm not so old myself...I'd like to think anyway HA! I digress; My point is I have always loved, and wanted to know God. I have searched in the pages of many versions of the bible. At some point for a while I was educated out of believing in any of them. I still have a tattered, leather-bound version of the NIV with my name on the front: a gift from my best friend years ago. For years read that bible, but truthfully, I did not truly know God until I trusted that He would help me understand the bible my parents gave me as a child: The bible so many generations have lived and died by. If you begin studying with the acceptance that every word is true, and right where it should be, then God himself will proceed to give you understanding.
Mark 10:27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
I would LOVE to share with you my own studies if you'd like to see them. I like to count things, obviously. :) I do believe that there are patterns and symbols in the bible. Once you start to see them, it is enlightening to say the least. I do thank you for reading and hope I can be of more help than harm! If you are in fact interested in the numbers check out King James Pure Bible Search The free software and a hardcopy in front of you make sure everything matches up is a great start to a brand new way of looking at the Old book!

God bless you too!

Let me try to show you what I meant. ;)
When I said becareful who you say things to such as there is only one true translation of the bible that is true.
I am talking about the fact that some one NOT as rooted and grounded as you are - will not understand what you mean. They may crumble or question what God has been working in them because they USE a bible translation that you SAY is false or not true to Gods word. Thus causing them to stumble.

I am not saying you are doing this. I was simply pointing out that we have to be very careful what we say and where we say it because we do not ever know for sure how many sets of ears hear our words. Not every one will be on the same level as you are and will not truly see this in the light that yoou do.

My main bible is KJ and I enjoy the AMP along with it. I have other translations which I enjoy reading as well and for me - they all work together for the good in my growth in Christ.

I would enjoy very much reading from your studies.
Now then Hallyson - I hope this clears things up to what I was saying.... ;)
God Bless and have a wonderful day

Gladly dear! I can share one on the forum, but they are much easier to follow and read if you have a word program of some sort I could email. Which do you prefer?

If I post anything here it will be from the true Word of God. All bibles do not send forth the same message, so I only stay in the pages of One. Sorry if you feel offended.

It is a strong subject this here subject about versions. There are God's children on both sides.

While for years I held very solidly to the KJV as the only true Bible, I have since revised my opinion to a degree on it. Not to the discredit of the King James Version by any means.. I still believe it is THE Bible commissioned by Almighty God, and have a large large list of reasons for that.

But... As years go by, I've come to accept a few things.

One ---> People are saved even through the other versions. This means that God speaks to them through these versions. Did I like the fact this is true? No, not back when. I hold a deep love for my KJV, and grudgingly gave in to God on this realization.

Two ---> Sometimes the KJV is hard to read. (note: this is true of all versions though to a degree) In places here or there, the way language was used in King James day it is hard to follow at times. I personally believe those that translated the KJV understood language better than those of today, as it is all they spent their time on. No computers. Pen and paper. (or quill) I believe the version of language used in the Bible is superior to what we use today, as it is more accurate. This is the reason they wrote it with thee, thou, and thy actually, as there is no confusion who the speaker is talking to. Hebrew is like this in that you aren't confused with words like "you" which can mean just you, or "you people" or "you two"... it could be nearly any number... singular and/or plural.

Three---> I don't think for one second that God will allow them to screw up the translations beyond being useful for Him. I've come to the conclusion that though I feel the KJV is irreplaceable in its accuracy and that it should hold as the standard... no matter who translated it, He was there and wouldn't allow them to twist it but so far. I've heard stories of God doing supernatural things to those who didn't believe in Him yet took on translating His Word and were planning something God didn't approve of. Considering how badly they could have messed it up.. (especially using the Westcott-Hort instead of Textus Receptus) God wouldn't let them do but so much. I believe there are Evil twists in some versions.. and have actually seen some pretty wicked works of deception placed in Bibles. But I truly believe this is a Romans 8:28 issue and God is using Evil against itself.

With all that said, I don't think anyone is Evil in particular for using a version they like.

From what I've studied, the King James Version is unparalleled and don't ever see that changing. So my KJV is my absolute no alternative, and other versions, for me, are my commentaries.

I have two main Bibles I use these days. Mostly my KJV, and if I read something that leaves me a little cross eyed, I pick up my ESV and check a modern rendering.. when I get the point of the passage, I pick the KJV up and re-read it.. and it makes perfect sense.

One other thing to note. You will find no other Bible in this world that you can distribute for free without breaking a copyright law. My ESV is a good resource to me, but it is an extra to the Canon I hold as sacred. As already stated here in a post, only my KJV can be copied legally for free.. they are going to want some money if they knew about copying the ESV.

I also believe many other things on this subject. But it's best to keep it short. Last point I make is this:

When people are reading different Bibles... know who gets most confused? The ones reading anything besides the KJV. I truly believe it increases intelligence. The longer I read the KJV the easier it becomes.

I can pick up any version and understand what the passage is about. But they can't always pick up my KJV and do that... that tells me something. There is power in it. It expands the mind. And I believe God done that on purpose.

Not to mention, don't even get me started on "group reading" and "quoting verses"... They all get mixed up on that issue.

PS, ( noticed some other comments above ) --- to understand the reason the KJV is the absolute rock solid accurate version.. It takes some real research. And even then, you have to sort through misinformation and distinguish what is true and what isn't.. because let's be honest, the internet isn't the KJV. ;) lol --- ( If you'd like some reasons message me and I'll try to find some of the same research I've done previously. Please don't think I'm condemning you reading your preferred version :D )

[edit] Starting a thread on why. If anyone has curiosities they may find what I come across periodically posted there.

HAllyson.. just curious. Why is it we are counting again? And have you ever owned a Concordance? I have a Strong's Version that was bought for me I had asked for a number of years ago.. BEST accomplice to my KJV Bible I've EVER had. I love it. Can look up every single word in Greek or Hebrew in a quick minute.

And as far as counting goes.. oh dear.. With a concordance and your love for counting, you'd be like a baby elephant in a pool full of peanuts.. lol

the internet isn't the KJV

I think you and I are in agreement about more things than you realize. :) Anyone who is struggling with this issue should indeed conduct their own research, and seek out answers from as many resources as possible. If your statement is in reference to the website I quoted in my forum post, I should mention the site is a link to download a free program someone wrote for free. It is a program containing every word of the KJV bible beginning to end. When you enter a word to search, the program pulls up every verse containing the word. The program also lists the number of occurrences, what chapter your in, there are more options than I should really describe here. You do not even really have to download the program it is available to use free from the website in your browser. (Good stuff). I keep my bible handy and check to see if the scripture matches up with what I'm seeing in front of me. Of course, if it be God's will, more and more people will study in a similar fashion, making sure we're all seeing the same things.

(In regards to everything I said above, it is much simpler to just believe, and trust that the Word of God is truth. Look for God in His words, and there you will find Him. He does not hide from us).

Proverbs 1: 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Why is it we are counting again?

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Counting is apparently important in the bible. For instance, in revelation, we are told to count the number of the beast.

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

In the following passage Solomon writes:

Ecclesiastes 7: 25 I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:....Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:

A pastor I am quite fond of found a connection between these two verses. In revelation we are told the number of the beast. Ecclesiastes 7:25 is the 666th book of the bible. In both verses, we see that wisdom is gained by counting. I think it is safe to say that if one has faith that every word of the bible is true, then preacher Solomon is spot on. From both the new and old testaments of the bible, here we find a double witness of the importance of numbers and counting in regards to wisdom.

I count because it has blessed me to do so. I am not telling anyone what they must do. I'm telling everyone it's not a bad idea.

I love God. He comforts me. He chastens me. He loves me, and I don't deserve that.

Psalm 139: 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

have you ever owned a Concordance?

I have not. I have heard many things about this book but here is my theory concerning this subject and my personal relationship with God: I do not speak Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, or Latin. Like most folks, I know a few things here and there about other languages, but nothing substantial or impressive. I speak English. That's it. I am currently learning about the Kings English, by which the standards of our language were first established. (We poor folks were probably never meant to understand proper English, but by the Grace of God we are learning. Go figure, some people make fun of southerners for their accent, and manner of speech, but they often resemble the the King's English more so than other dialects). When I get hung up on a word, I like to check several English dictionaries (the older the better). This has been quite helpful. The bible also includes a word or phrase that explains the word you may not understand within the verse or sometimes even chapter you are reading. Thank you for this advice, it still seems like a good resource to have!

Thank you for the replies! :)
