God's Word describes hope as the anchor of the soul (see Hebrews 6:19). This hope is trusting that something you believe is true will actually come true. To hope means to be convinced. There's no wishful thinking involved.
Jesus was bringing hope to the people of the first century. People had this convincing hope that if they could meet Jesus they would be healed. In the middle of this hope the entire city came to see what would happen at the finish line of trust. They believed the reports of His ability to heal. They came believing He could heal them. They came without hesitation.
Today it may be a lack of trust that leaves people unconvinced that God is really that good, loving, or merciful. You might believe today's verse is simply a piece of history and believe things like that could never happen today.
God never promised He would heal everyone in every situation. But He welcomes the worship offered by those who believe He can.
Prayer: Dear God, my hope in You leaves me convinced You're good and Your plans are best. May the trust I have in You never limit You from doing miracles. Help me to be convinced of Your power.
