confession

Lets see why they do it

Sin is, as we have said, separation. First of all, sin separates us from God. Sin keeps us from being who God intends us to be. The communion with God that was given on the first day of creation is fractured by sin, and eternal life can only be granted when that fracture is healed.
Confession to the priest overcomes and heals this because the priest is the sacramental presence of Christ in the Church. When someone confesses to the priest, he is confessing to God Himself, thereby healing the fracture which has occurred when someone sins. Our proper and intended relationship with God is restored when we confess to the priest
by Father John Dresko

When you confess to the priest its like confessing to God himself ?

RED FLAG

The blood of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can heal the fracture which occurs when we sin.

The bible does talk about confessing our sins to others
James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much

But thats only for, uplifting and encouraging the body of Christ. We MUST go to GOD first.
Its okay to go to leaders, but we must take it to God in prayer.

Repentance is personal, why leave the message with someone to give to God. Our father already knows our hearts, we must trust him and go to him. Jesus didnt die on the cross for us to confess to a someone else.

Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

I think the verse says it all. For everything including confession we go through Jesus.

Blessings!

At one point people needed a high priest to bring forth to God the Father attonement for their sins. We still need a high priest today, but a new high priest took over, to bring forth to God the Father attonement for our sins once & for all &
His name is Jesus, Annoited One, Messiah
.
Thus now we confess to our heavenly priest instead of earthly ones. See below verses

Hebrews 9:1-11 (The Message)
1 That first plan contained directions for worship, and a specially designed place of worship.
2 A large outer tent was set up. The lampstand, the table, and "the bread of presence" were placed in it. This was called "the Holy Place."
3 Then a curtain was stretched, and behind it a smaller, inside tent set up. This was called "the Holy of Holies."
4 In it were placed the gold incense altar and the gold-covered ark of the covenant containing the gold urn of manna, Aaron's rod that budded, the covenant tablets,
5 and the angel-wing-shadowed mercy seat. But we don't have time to comment on these now.
6 After this was set up, the priests went about their duties in the large tent.
7 Only the high priest entered the smaller, inside tent, and then only once a year, offering a blood sacrifice for his own sins and the people's accumulated sins.
8 This was the Holy Spirit's way of showing with a visible parable that as long as the large tent stands, people can't just walk in on God.
9 Under this system, the gifts and sacrifices can't really get to the heart of the matter, can't assuage the conscience of the people,
10 but are limited to matters of ritual and behavior. It's essentially a temporary arrangement until a complete overhaul could be made.
11 But when the Messiah arrived, high priest of the superior things of this new covenant, he bypassed the old tent and its trappings in this created world and went straight into heaven's "tent" - the true Holy Place - once and for all.
