The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys. Exodus 40:38 NLT
After their exodus from Egypt, the Israelites followed God as no one had before—as a physically manifested cloud, visible by day and lit by an inner fire by night. There was no mistaking God’s presence leading the nation of Israel.
The cloud didn’t just lead them, though; God used it to fight for His people. Exodus 14:24-25 says, “But just before dawn the Lord looked down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud, and he threw their forces into total confusion. He twisted their chariot wheels, making their chariots difficult to drive. ‘Let’s get out of here—away from these Israelites!’ the Egyptians shouted. “The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt!’”
We may not have a pillar of cloud to physically guide us toward God’s promised land, but we have something even better: God’s presence within us. “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).
Today, make it as obvious to others as it was to the Israelites that God’s presence is with you.
Prayer: Father, may I follow your lead from within as You keep me safe as I do Your will here on earth.
