Cloud and Fire

For throughout all their journeys the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel. Exodus 40:38 AMPC

Good leaders inspire strong followers. It’s true for the soldier who follows a general into battle. It’s true for an employee who follows the vision of his company leader. Every memorable movement has had a strong leader. That doesn’t always mean the leader was worth following, but it makes the point that if a leader is indecisive, he will never lead effectively.

God had to give Moses a spiritual spine. Only then could he lead the people. God delivered a visible reminder of His unshakable glory by providing a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to lead the people. He supplied food and water in what looked like impossible circumstances. He was unswerving in His commitment. He led.

God leads today. His commitment hasn’t diminished. His love hasn’t failed. Unshakable leadership can lead to unshakable followers, but it’s always your decision. Do you trust God enough to follow? Or will you insist on trying your own way? Will you be unshaken, or will you be fearful?

Prayer: Father, I can follow because You lead. You always have my best in mind, so when I follow You, I don’t have to fear where You lead. Give me courage to see Your path and take the next step.

'And the LORD went before them
.. by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and
.... by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light;
...... to go by day and night:
He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day,
nor the pillar of fire by night,
from before the people.'
(Exo 13:21-22)

Hello @Christ4Ever,

Thank you for this. This is so comforting I find. The pillar of cloud during the day, (to lead them the way) and the pillar of fire by night (to give them light). They received both 'light' and 'leading' by means of these provisions of God, didn't they. There was also an occasion when the pillar of cloud was used to hide them from the approaching army of the Egyptians, and the fire by night would have been a protection from wild beasts too. So that they provided a defence against Israel's enemies, as well as wild beasts, the heat day and the cold of the desert night. Making journeying possible during the daytime and at night should that be necessary.

God's provision takes into account all our needs, doesn't it?

Thank you
In Christ Jesus

Dear Sister,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You are so right that God takes into account all our needs. Many of His movements require our intent attention (spiritual) to see in the how if not the way of it being done in our lives and in the World. Either way we know it's to our good! Amazing that what some would call the Shekinah Glory still wasn't enough for that generation of Jews to completely give themselves to Him (Except for a few)! I'm curious how different many now a days would have been were they there, considering they can't even accept a Risen Christ Jesus!!

Anyway, thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
