Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land. Psalm 12:7-8 NLT

Sometimes things look hopeless. At lest they did to David, who starts out this psalm with this lament: “Help, O LORD, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!” That’s pretty pessimistic. Yet, it’s true to how David felt at that time.

The second verse continues David’s lament: “Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.” Yes, that had happened to David repeatedly. Yet he didn’t take things into his own hands.

In the next two verses, David asked the Lord to silence these hypocrites and evildoers. Thankfully, the Lord assured David that He would arise and act. In deep gratitude, David affirms the absolute trustworthiness of the Lord’s words. Then he closes with the two verses quoted above.

What a contrast between the content, quality, and duration of deceitful, defiant, and doomed men over against God’s perfect, unerring, and everlasting Word.

How have things looked to you in recent days? Hopeless? Or hopefilled? Or somewhere in between?

Like David, you can tell the Lord how you feel and ask Him to rise up and act.

Prayer: Lord, transform me. Like David, may I always turn to You in honest, heartfelt prayer.
