People are saved not because of what religion they belong to, but by what they personally believe. People receive eternal life by believing in Jesus as the one and only Savior. Catholics believe some extra stuff that is not in the Bible, but if you fully believe that you are saved through Jesus and what He accomplished on the Cross, you will have eternal life...it is a promise.

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my (Jesus) words and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. John 5:24

The Apostle Paul identifies two key ingredients involved in salvation: faith and grace. God gives us salvation and eternal life because he is loving and gracious; we receive it through faith and trust in Jesus. Salvation is undeserved, it is a gift. It is not at all related to good behaviour or good works - or on our religion!

Therefore since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. Romans 5:1-2

For it is by God's grace that you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God - not of works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that having been justified by His grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7

I hope this helps
love

When someone says "I believe in Jesus" Do they?

When someone thinks they believe in Jesus Do They?

How can you or anyone know that the Jesus they believe in is The Messiah Jesus not another jesus?

2 Corinthians 11
2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted -- you may well put up with it!

You focus on the catholics, but how do you know you are true follower of The Messiah Jesus not just a follower of another jesus, created by the vian thoughts of men?

Jude 1:11
Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

2 Peter 2:15
They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;

Do you know what balaam’s advice was to the enemy of Gods people?
Well it can be refined to this:

The only way to defeat Gods people is to cause them by any way to go against the will of God. Thereby removing the protection of their undefeatable ally The God of Abraham.

That’s why they where preaching another jesus. To deceive them into following a non-existent savor. How can we know if we are following the real Jesus?

Pray to The God of Abraham for guidance and read the Words Of Jesus. Read His will for us.

Every christian no matter what denomination must seek Him. Or else they are just relying on a priest, pastor, reverend, preacher or televangelist for their salvation. Salvation is through Jesus, no one else. Each individual must seek the Lord.

Philippians 2:12 . Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Hi adstair,
Only God really knows what is in a person's heart.
I only focussed on the Catholics because that is the actual topic of this thread.

I agree we need to examine ourselves to make sure that we are truly in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5-6) and not deluding ourselves like some people have. (Matthew 7:21-23) But God looks after those who diligently seek him through His Word. He will keep us on the right path if we trust and obey Him. (John 10:3-4) The Holy Spirit also bears witness in our hearts that we are truly children of God.

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children Romans 8:13-16

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit that calls out "Abba, Father." Galatians 4:6

He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:21b-22

As Paul said to Timothy:
Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do you will save both yourself and your hearers. 1 Timothy 4:16

love and peace

Hello evangeline

My post was in answer to jesusisthegod. i had not read your post before posting. I posted it as a word of caution to all Christians.

you said:

Yes i agree. But the way you put that down makes me think that you think that i was claiming to knew what was in others hearts? I assure you i do not. The questions i asked in my post where there to cause people to take a step back and think. To get them to really search if they are in fact a true follower of The Messiah Jesus. In the end we will face Him as individuals. Not in denominational or religious blocks.

Blessings to you.

I was raised in the catholic church, and I have always believed that Jesus is the Son of God, that he died for our sins, and is the one and only way to salvation.

Perhaps you know someone who shared a different view of Jesus than what I learned. I left the catholic church many years ago, but it was because of dozens of other reasons, not because of their view of Jesus.

Our salvation is based on one thing, which others have posted previously in this thread...do we, in our hearts, believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that he died for our sins? Are we willing to place our faith and trust in Him to be true to His promises?

God knows our hearts....He doesn't judge by what religion we are.

Dear JesusistheGod,

After reading Evangeline's and Adstar's posts to your thread, I praise God for their ministry. I was blessed by their views backed by scripture.

Your statement and question on Catholicism, however, leaves me curious. What scripture are you referencing your view, "Catholics believe Jesus, but in a different way?" What way do you mean? "Will they go to the heaven after death?" Death before they were saved or after they were saved?

Please share a bit more, JesusistheGod. Thank you.

Your servant in Christ Jesus.

i meant the physicial death
catholics do not believe trinity. and they think about The God Father, Mary the Mother, Jesus the Son. that is what they believe. we all know they are wrong, but i think they are not evils. so I just wonder will they still go to the hell after physicial death just because they recognised Jesus in a wrong way. you know they also respect Jesus.

i was not a catholic before, so i know little about them.
in my understanding, they believe God's family, right? and I think they believe the God father is the different one from Jesus the son. and I think they believe the Father are more powerful than Jesus the Son. and I think they dont believe the Son is in the Father, and the Son is not the Top One. right? that is what is my understanding about catholics belief. if i am wrong ,correct please.
obviously, catholics are wrong, we all know that. so based on what they believe , after physicial death , will they go to the hell? because we are stupid human beings, our knowledges are limited. catholics think they get the truth ,which they dont, but it is not their fault, just because they are stupid like us. we got salvation, just because we are lucky, not becasue we are clever than catholics, i think.
so i think catholics go to the hell just because they are unlucky.
correct me, if you think i am wrong. please.

I was once a catholic. But when i read the Bible i could not be catholic anymore.

There where many things that catholic church says that i could not agree with, because they where against what bible said.

One of the central issues i have differences with catholic church is the teachings the catholic church has on Mary. One of those teaching i consider to be a Balaam teaching. That teaching is this; The catholic church has given Mary the title of Co- Redemtress (sorry bad spelling) this is the female term for the male Redeemer. Now we Christians know who our Redeemer is. This Title is reserved for the Messiah Jesus. He is our Redeemer.

Isaiah 44:
6 " Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God.

Galatians 3:
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed [is] everyone who hangs on a tree"),

Galatians 4:
4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

Titus 2:
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself [His] own special people, zealous for good works.

Revelation 5:
9 And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

When one says that Mary is a Co-redemtress. One is saying there are two Messiah's two Savors. They are saying that Mary is the equal of Jesus. The bible says that Only Jesus is the Way to God. No one else.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

This is one reason i could no longer be a catholic. I see this teaching as an abomination to God.

Unless the catholic church has radically changed their teachings since I was a member, someone has given you incorrect information. Catholics believe in the trinity the same way most mainline Protestant churches do. I was never taught that Mary was part of the trinity or that she was a co-redemptrix (this is a more recent development, and I don't think it's part of official church doctrine).

I think the catholic church is incorrect for placing church tradition ahead of scripture, it's infatuation with Mary, praying to saints, papal infallibility, and a number of other teachings. But I think it is incorrect to say they don't believe in the Jesus of the New Testament or that they misunderstand the trinity. My understanding of the Trinity is 100% in line with scripture, and I learned it when I was a kid in catholic school.

To call people devils is wrong to me. We can call someone deceived. We can say someone is misled. Or that someone has misconception of truth. I think devil is too strong a word to call a person. I believe everyone who will hear the truth can be saved. Many people do not know the truth because they have not heard the truth, it is not their fault.

Dear JesusistheGod,

I disagree. Please show me scripture that supports your view. I was raised Roman Catholic, was baptised as an infant, went to Catholic school for grades 1 and 2, confirmed at age 13, and graduated from catechism my senior year in high school. I confess I was not a serious believer as a Catholic in my youth and strayed into sin in my early adulthood until I was saved years later. Regardless, I do remember the Catholic doctrine definitely believes in the Trinity, reference from the New Catholic Edition of the Holy Bible;

Matthew 28:19-20, Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you all the days, even unto the comsumation of the world.

I know the Catholics pay homage to the virgin Mary but I will not and its not scriptural.

Brother JesusistheGod, regarding Catholics going to hell after physical death, many Catholics are saved, receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, praise our Father for His Works, and will have eteranal life.

Please reread from Adstar's, Homewardbound's, and sister Evangeline's previous posts which all offer excellent insight to your original thread.

Your servant in Christ Jesus.

hi, dear bobinfaith
my understanding about catholics is from what i thought and what i heard, catholic people aren't my focus, i have no interests to know them fully.
i dont know how to quot catholic's view from bible. I am just a beginner christian. My heart fully belongs to Jesus, He understands and examines me, ( which is the only thing important to me). although i have so many question or sometimes i have misunderstood sth, but i dont feel bad. I try to learn and eager to know in the Body. I dont want to protend my poor acoknowledge of christianity. everytime when i got the right answer from here, it made me so happy. in real life, i also asked so many questions in my fellowship and remembered all the answers from them.
should i be a blind-believer?

You all provided great inisight to show jesusisthegod that in face, JESUS is the GOD :)

Not Mary, no saints or popes (papal) or anyone else.

I went to catholic school for 13 years! They say their "hail mary" which is an automatic penalty lets say. They have the pope wearing that crazy gold hat on his head and if I'm not mistaking, doesn't the book of revelations talks about the "anti christ" with a hat made of gold and silver? I dont' remember the whole thing but when I was shown this I freaked out a little.

Catholics certainly believe Mary as "Mother of God" instead of "Mother of baby Jesus" which makes all the difference. Basically, the first is where they inert power to her (mary) as if she is a miraculous person, perfect and/or "worthy" lets say. However, Scripture makes it clear that she is imperfect and a sinner needing redemption like everyone else. Even Mary herself would point to the sky and say she is not worthy whenever visitors would come to her and bow down to her (this is after they found out the great news that she would carry Jesus). I may not remember it correctly 100% but you get the general idea.
