I always tell my grand girl she is a snooty brat!
(LOL that is shock value)
When she was little. I had no backing to keep her form being in a abusive situation.
but the time I did get her home with me.
I dicovered a introverted person. over things that where happening in her life ..like being called names. two words where snooty and brat!
so I came up with a game.
I was playing a brat game with her.
and she started calling me brat!
by reversing roles she would chase me around as I would grab a toy or things of hers. and I would tell her snooty meant. sticking her snoot up so high in the air. that we could drown if it rained.and show her some toys that had their snoot up in the air.
she would laugh and laugh at the games.
if she was eating a treat. I would give her another piece of treat. and tell her she is the brat here. because I only have one piece and she has two.
( I would make the word brat a funny game to her.)
when she left my house. she thought the word brat. and snooty. where funny.
it is very hard to explain on here.
but the good thing was.
when she got back to being called that names in a bad way.
her feelings where not hurt anymore.
when I said how is my snooty brat kid on the phone to her.
she laughed and laughed.
she said.. you know grandma. you are the only person who says that in a funny way.
I asked her. well does it hurt you when they say snooty and brat to you anymore?
she said .. well.. inside of me I want to laugh out loud. I don't ! but I want too.
she said I know they mean it in a bad way.
but I know I am not the bad way!
and I think of the games we play about brat. and know its going to be ok.
so I all ways call my sweet girl my little snooty brat.
and say..where is MY doll. I can play with.. as she tells me . no you can't shread up my toys. and I am the real brat not her. lol

I found that playing SHE was the responsible one. in games. and I was being the brat. letting her know. brat is not having to be a real thing.. or being snooty.
took the PAIN out of being called names.
she went back as a whole person.
and I know it changed her life.. she knows her value! and now she is confident in who she really is. that names can have no true meaning . if you know who you really are!
