These were his instructions to them: "The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves. Luke 10:2-3 NLT
When you compare the amount of work involved in preparing a field for planting and sowing seeds versus gathering the harvest, there is no doubt that gathering is the easier, far more certain task. The ground has been plowed, fertilized, watered, and tended for months. To benefit from the preparation and planting, a laborer only needs to show up and harvest what has already been started in the ground. But without the laborers needed to gather the crops, the hard work of fertilizing, plowing, and sowing will all go to waste.
With His death and resurrection, Jesus brought new life and unity with God to the world. You have been entrusted with this incredible message of hope, and it has already been at work in so many hearts all around you. As you celebrate the victory of Jesus’ death and resurrection, ask God how you can go out into the “fields” around you to gather the harvest that has already been prepared.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to see the ways I can bring Your new life to others.
