“Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called ‘Uncircumcision’ by the so-called ‘Circumcision,’ which is performed in the flesh by human hands— remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.” (Ephesians 2:11-16 NASB1995)

“to be specific, that the Gentiles are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (Ephesians 3:6 NASB1995)

Under the Old Covenant God had with his people Israel (Jews only), Gentiles (non-Jews) were excluded from Israel (God’s holy nation). But via Jesus’ death on that cross, by which he put our sins to death with him, all who have trusted in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of our lives are now included in (spiritual) Israel. And all who rejected Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior (the Christ, their Messiah) were cut out of Israel. But they can be grafted back in through God-persuaded faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

So, biblical Israel, which is of God, is all who are of genuine biblical faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who have died with Christ to their sins, and who are now walking with him in obedience to his commands, in practice. The physical nation of Israel, which as a nation has rejected Jesus Christ as their Lord, Savior, and Messiah, is regarded by God now as of Hagar and not of Sarah, because she is still in slavery with her children, so thus, in the eyes of God, no different from the Arab nations (Galatians 4:22-31).

[Genesis 17:7-9; Genesis 18:19; John 8:18-19,38-47; Romans 2:28-29; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 9:4-8,25-28; Romans 11:1-36; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; Galatians 3:16,26-29; Galatians 4:22-31; Ephesians 2:11-22; Ephesians 3:6; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-16; Hebrews 8:6-13;1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 2:22; Jude 1:5; Revelation 2:9; Revelation 3:9]

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:14-19 NASB1995)

So, this was an encouragement to the Gentile (non-Jewish) believers in Jesus Christ, now that they were part of spiritual Israel, that they might grow, mature, and be strengthened in their walks of faith in obedience to the Lord and to his will and purpose for their lives. It was an encouragement to them that they might develop in understanding and in practice as to what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ, to understand and to put into daily practice all that God had for them to do and to be, as his followers. For..

By God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).

So, may we be encouraged, as well, to walk worthy of God by faith in Christ.

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25 NIV ‘84

Lord, I praise You forevermore.
You, my Savior, I now adore.
Hope in heaven awaiting me,
Because You died at Calvary.

I have been forgiven,
And I’m bound for heaven.
Jesus set me free from
All my sin, I say.
I will praise Him always!

Lord, I love You for all You’ve done:
Overcame death, my vict’ry won!
Jesus saved me, and now I’m free!
I rejoice in His love for me.

I will walk in vict’ry!
My sin is but hist’ry!
I am free to please Him
With my life today.
I will love Him always!

Lord, I thank You for giving me
A new life bought at Calvary.
Loving Jesus, I meet with Him.
Tender mercies now flow within.

Lord, I am so thankful;
Through my Lord, I’m able
To sit at His table;
Fellowship with Him.
I will thank Him always!
