Tragedy has struck millions of India's "poorest of the poor" again--and again GFA is there, bringing hope in the name of Jesus. Again, we ask for your prayers.

This time there was no tsunami. The water did not roar in from the sea. This time the flood came from the sky. Heavy torrents of water beat on the streets of Mumbai (Bombay). They rushed through the mud paths of the slums. They washed away the dreams of more than five million men, women and children.

A dozen of our Believers Churches were also swept away in the torrent. Pastors saw their possessions soaked and ruined. 80 of our Bible college students were stranded for two days in the upper floors of their old, leaking building, while the first floor lay under four feet of water. Precious literature was destroyed or damaged.

More than 283,000 houses were destroyed and 16,000 villages were damaged. Destruction reached all the way to Kerala, far to the south of Mumbai.

Like the tsunami, this tragedy left mothers with hopeless stares carrying their dead babies in their arms through the streets.

But you and I know that through the love of Jesus there is hope for these mothers and others who have lost so much. That is why, already, some 200 GFA Compassion Services volunteers are on the scene, bringing much-needed food and clean water to the victims. Already they are planning on rebuilding huts for homeless families as well as the churches that were lost to the waters.

Today, I want to ask you to lift up these courageous men and women in your prayers. It will take at least US$500,000 for us to meet the immediate physical and emotional needs of those who have lost so much, so whatever contribution you can make will not only provide then with physical help, but will also bring them their only true source of hope for a new life--Jesus Christ. Prayer Needed as Floods Increase

Gospel for Asia and Believers Church leaders are calling for intense prayer as relief teams reach out to minister to tens of thousands of families affected by India's heaviest rains in 100 years.

After being bombarded with 26 inches (660mm) of rain in one day, Mumbai (Bombay) and other parts of coastal India suffered flooding that has killed at least 1,500 people.

And the latest forecast is for more rain! Click here to read the rest of the story. http://www.gfa.org/flood?motiv=WA58-G1FL
