I found this little blurb on the MET Church of Ottawa site. I thought it was interesting.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of blogging and twittering to spread the faith?

Before answering your question, it may be helpful to define a few terms. After all, I didn’t know what twittering was a few months back. A blog is a type of internet website where a person communicates his or her thoughts. Twittering is a form of micro-blogging (posts are limited to 140 letters or characters).

When it comes using these trendy mediums to communicate the timeless truth of the Christian faith, there are some disadvantages. For starters, blogs may be innocuous in their content and ineffective in their impact. I saw a poster that read, “Blogging: Never before have so many people—with so little to say—said so much, to so few.” And when it comes to twittering, some will argue this type of media shortens attention spans, fills the world with drivel and shrinks the soul’s capacity for greatness.

But even with these limitations, both blogging and twittering can play a part in spreading the message of Jesus. Different media connect with different people. Not everyone listens to radio, but radio has been used to spread the Christian faith. The same goes for television, CDs, magazines and movies.

The apostle Paul said he was willing to “become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:22). While he never changed his message, he was willing to adapt his methods. He looked for creative ways to connect with people so he could effectively communicate the good news that Jesus had died for their sins and had been raised to life. He wanted everyone to know that trusting in Jesus was the way to be forgiven and to become friends with God.

Blogging and twittering the message of Jesus certainly won’t reach everyone. But it may reach some. And that’s good enough.

“Blogging: Never before have so many people—with so little to say—said so much, to so few.” Haha...now theres a quote for the century!
