bible verision?

The best one for you would be the one through which God is able to speak to your heart when you read or study it. Personally, I have always read the King James for English, but God is able and does use other vehicles to bring his message to hungry hearts. The main thing for you is to establish a regular connection with God and maintain it. If you are serious, God will help you with that. Ask God to develop within you a hunger and a thirst for His righteousness:

"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. "Matt 5:6

Hi @Andy Gonzalez

I generally use the NIV or ESV. Simple to understand. I recommend using a bible study version of these for more insight and little useful study notes that are beneficial in understanding Scripture throughout.

I use NIV the most but have many others I use as well! The main message from God does not vary among different Bibles. I think it is best to use several, maybe you will settle on one.Eugene Peterson's "The Message" is real useful for a common sense cross-reference!

What is the best bible version is it the king james version ?

Hi Andy,
Good afternoon. I agree with amadeus2. The best version of the Bible for you is the one that you are able to get into and keeps you reading. If you are new to the Bible I might suggest the New Living Translation (NLT). I primarily use the ESV but it never hurts to utilize other versions as one may spark a question or a thought that another did not.

Hello Andy

As mentioned by others I would always recommend the KJV and one other. I always start with KJV but do read the NIV as it is easy to understand. I like the Life Application version with study notes but as RJ says, Eugene Peterson's "The Message" is very good. I have 29 versions but find the above are most times more than enough, always referring back to the KJV.

If you are unsure which is best for you got to BibleGate BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible in over 100 versions and 50 languages. and look up a few of your favourite verses on there, then do the same with unfamiliar verses. Start with KJV and then compare the others versions, it is always good to read more than one version.

If you are serious in studying and reading the Word and use your computer a lot, you can also consider WORDsearch Bible or WORDsearch Bible
There is a Free package, or a package to suit all levels. There is always lots if discounts on Bibles, Commentaries and associated reading.

I do hope the information is helpful to you.

God Bless you

Version wise @andy, I would say the KJV.
People for the sake of research utilize a variety of Bible Versions, Paraphrase Bibles in order to see where someone is coming from when they quote from a specific source. However, I would not suggest some of them as being a primary source for coming to understand what God is trying to communicate us.

To give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Personally I would not give the Message to anyone period. However, many do use it. Why? Because they "feel" it gives them a better understanding. However, I'd have to ask. A better understanding of what? Unless they are comparing it to lets say the KJV where is this feeling of understanding coming from, based on? But let me not be the harbinger here. Let's see what the author himself said concerning the Message and it's use.

Eugene Peterson: "When I'm in a congregation where somebody uses [The Message] in the Scripture reading, it makes me a little uneasy. I would never recommend it be used as saying, "Hear the Word of God from The Message." But it surprises me how many do.".

NIV the same, but for different reasons. I'll post more later.

You should never rely one and version exclusively. I like the message, while coupled with cross referencing others as well. I like the KJV version and use it often, but I don't live in a world of thes and thows.
When all said and done, and learning / knowing the truth of the gospel, I see no major difference of any significance among the major versions used!

Maybe if you you had them right they might make better sense "thee and thou" ;) Just a little fun brother! :)

Chad just posted today I believe this one, which comes in handy on this topic. I have a feeling it will be lively discussion indeed and for thee.

Missing Bible Verses, Harper Collins, More

Love you brother!

I think it is good to read several versions after all we are reading translations from Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. There are also cultural differences to take into account as well as time span.

My number one is KJV and NKJV (the NKJV talks English without the thes and thows ;)). My next most popular and probably favourite is the NIV Life Application Bible, all other versions are after reading these three.

Have you come to any conclusions Andy?

May the Lord Bless you and Guide you to which Bible version is right for you, may He reveal the Truth in His Word to you, through His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

I didn't realize spelling counted on T.J.!;)
Regardless of what Bible you read, it doesn't make any difference if the Holy Spirit is not talking to you!
