Good morning everyone... I'm trying to find a good bible studying technique. Someone told me to start with John then go from there. Any and all suggestions are welcomed...
Thanks

The best way I've found, also used by most ministers around us, is to read the NIV New Testament straight through like a novel as quickly as possible, like in the next 30-60 days, 4-8 chapters a day. Some folks dislike a few passage translations in it, but it serves as a very effective overview in easy English Along the way make notes, later going back to whatever came to your mind as curious. Then explore the New Testament in different ways, maybe getting hold of a study Bible that has topics to focus on, like my favorite, a Tompkins Chain Reference Bible. There are many others available, some with daily study guides

While continuing that at devoted times of day or night, begin reading the Old Testament through, book by book, preferably in a year. The OT has 929 chapters, so if you read 3 chapters a day you could finish it in less than a year. Once you read through it, you will have gained a huge education about the whole plan of God, having read the end of the plan of God (NT), then getting the foundation of it in the OT. Each year repeat that. Over time you will be able to thumb right to a passage you need, and will add to your memorization of scriptures.

Soon you won't need a guide at all, having a good handle on what's in the Bible, where it is, and you will learn more about applying it to your daily walk. That's the fastest route I know of. You have a lovely little one in that photo, who will benefit from your studies too.

Greetings

What a lovely question, how do I study my Bible?

There are many techniques and everyone is different, so one persons technique may not be another, this doesn't mean any one technique is wrong just that we, our situations and our faith are all different or at different levels.

Consider how much time you have to read your Bible, you need 'uninterrupted time', lets call it a special time with God because that is what it is. We need to give as much time is practical for us, we do not want to be thinking what are the children doing, shall I be preparing a meal and what shall I prepare. Remember, God gives you 24/7, then think how much time you can give Him.

Without doubt the New Testament is the place to start, Mark is often a good Gospel to start on as it is the smallest Gospel. This Gospel sort of gets you started, it gets you into gear. Now John's Gospel is without doubt my favourite and many recommend reading John's Gospel. But this is your reading time, you choose, you may read John's Gospel after reading Mark's but, it is good to go back and start with Matthew's Gospel and work your way through, by the time you come to John's Gospel you are then ready to be lifted to a new level.

Initially you may choose to read through the New Testament, starting with the 4 Gospels, in whatever order, then following though book by book. This is a good thing to do but once you have done so, go back and read it again. This time take more time over your reading, picture yourself in the crowd, what are you seeing now you never saw before. The Bible is amazing. Remember this is your reading time, your time with the Lord, read as much as you can without interruptions. As you read the stories, ask yourself questions, these are well know questions to ask whilst reading and studying your Bible.....

W W W W W H. Who is in this story, Who is it about, Why are they doing what they are doing, Why didn't others do so. What is the meaning behind this message, What was that done for, Where are they, Where are they going, Where is this message going, Where am I in this message. When was it written, year, time of year, time of day and finally H - How has the message helped you, How am I to respond, How can I become a better Christian.

If you wanted to read the Bible using a reading plan you can find many on the internet, Bible Gateway - Reading Plans is just one website you could look at.

One last comment, most important, pray before you start reading your Bible and after reading your Bible, always through Jesus Christ our Lord or in Jesus name. Ask God to guide your heart and mind, ask Him to send the Holy Spirit to reveal the Truth in His word to you. He will, and every time you re-read scripture you will see things you never saw before.

God Bless you, Jesus Loves you, we do too.
