And the LORD will strike Egypt, He will strike and heal [it]; they will return to the LORD, and He will be entreated by them and heal them. Isaiah 19:22 NKJV

Isaiah 19 tells the story of how God sent a series of terrible judgments on the land of Egypt…and about how He would so mercifully and graciously heal many Egyptians when they finally called out to Him.

Egypt had been an enemy of Israel at different times in the two nations’ histories. What’s more, the Egyptians had become a proud, rebellious, idolatrous people who seemed to want nothing to do with the God of Israel.

But God did not give on the people of Egypt. One day, He would draw many Egyptians to Himself so that they could be saved. As it turned out, a strong and growing church thrived in Egypt for more than six centuries after Christ returned to heaven.

So, what can we learn from what happened in Egypt many centuries ago? We should never see even the most indifferent of sinners as beyond hope. Instead, we should pray that God would do anything it takes to bring that person to a point of understanding his own need for salvation. When that happens, we need to be ready to speak the message.

Prayer: Gracious God, I often think of certain sinners as beyond reach. Help me to remember that You want even the worst of sinners to turn to You for healing and forgiveness.
