And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3.18 NRSV)

The lighthouse was at the end of a dirt road. Squat and weathered, it was not impressive in the late evening light of Nova Scotia. On a bluff overlooking a fishing village on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, it had sat for generations guiding boats to a safe harbor. Upon climbing to the top of the lighthouse, its unusual construction was noted. The reflector was made up of different-sized pieces of mirror mounted at different angles behind the light. Each mirror was unique.

When the light came on at dusk, the logic of this construction became obvious. Because each mirror fragment was a different size and at a different angle to the light, the reflections from the bank of mirrors created a brilliance that a single mirror could not have equaled.

We Christians can be like the mirrors in the lighthouse. Each of us with our unique, special gifts from God can connect in love and with commitment to a common vision, and reflect God's greatness and love with particular brilliance. We can serve as a lighthouse, guiding others from darkness into the safe harbor of Christ's love.

Dear God, help me to be a mirror of you awesome love. In Jesus name, Amen.
