Becoming New In Christ
Cheers to the new you! A new year and a new you, right? Well, in Christ, all things are new. That's right. The Apostle Paul proclaimed, "Anyone in Christ is a brand new creation, the old has gone; behold, all things are new." I don't know about you, but I like the sound of that. The good news of the Bible is that Jesus Christ opened up a new way to God. Hebrews 10 talks about our new, clean heart and clear conscience. Because Jesus died for my sins and gave me His righteousness, I can now approach God with boldness and confidence, assured that He will accept me on the basis of Christ's righteousness. Wow, that is good news! The result is a new you.
In Ephesians 4 we read, "Have a new attitude... become a new person created to be like God, truly righteous and holy." And Colossians 3 tells us how, "Put off the old self with its practices and put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator." God wants our lives to reflect His character, and that is accomplished by partnering with His Holy Spirit. As we allow God's Spirit to take up residence in our lives, we become His ambassadors and God uses us to reach the lost. So you see, it is a new year.
A new way to God creates a new you, which gives you a new ministry - living uprightly before God and reconciling people to Him. And your reward is certainly promised. Peter reminds us in 2 Peter 3, "But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found in Him in peace, spotless and blameless." God be with you all this year...
