“My son, keep my words
And treasure my commandments within you.
Keep my commandments and live,
And my teaching as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’
And call understanding your intimate friend;
That they may keep you from an adulteress,
From the foreigner who flatters with her words.” (Proverbs 7:1-5 NASB1995)

Now, this can apply to both males and females, and adultery in today’s world can take many different forms, including it can be physical, sexual, and/or emotional adultery against one’s spouse, and/or it can be spiritual adultery against God. And actually, if one is unfaithful to their spouse, if they profess faith in Jesus Christ, they are also unfaithful and living in adultery against God. For God commands that we live lives which are holy, morally pure, upright, honest, and faithful to him in walks of obedience to his commands.

For we are not called of God to be his followers so that we can go on living in sin without conscience and without remorse. God has called us to keep his word and to follow his commandments (New Testament, too). And we are not to see this as a burden or as a drudgery, but as our desire to do the will of God, because we love him. Wisdom and understanding are to be our close companions that they may keep us from willfully, deliberately, and habitually sinning against God in living in adultery against him and our spouses.

“For at the window of my house
I looked out through my lattice,
And I saw among the naive,
And discerned among the youths
A young man lacking sense,
Passing through the street near her corner;
And he takes the way to her house,
In the twilight, in the evening,
In the middle of the night and in the darkness.
And behold, a woman comes to meet him,
Dressed as a harlot and cunning of heart.
She is boisterous and rebellious,
Her feet do not remain at home;
She is now in the streets, now in the squares,
And lurks by every corner.
So she seizes him and kisses him..”

“Come, let us drink our fill of love until morning;
Let us delight ourselves with caresses.
‘For my husband is not at home,
He has gone on a long journey;
He has taken a bag of money with him,
At the full moon he will come home.’
With her many persuasions she entices him;
With her flattering lips she seduces him.” (Proverbs 7:6-13,18-21 NASB1995)

We who are followers of Jesus Christ are NOT to be those who are lacking in good common sense, and who are easily persuaded toward evil deeds. And we are not to be those who willfully and deliberately take the path that we know is going to lead us in the wrong direction, especially in the direction of sexual sin and adultery against God and against our spouses. We are not to be those who tempt fate, who do what we know is dangerous and forbidden by God and that we know will lead us into a dark place we must not go to.

And in our day and time this is more often done via the internet via the use of smartphones, which can be for an addict very easy access to pornography and to extra-marital flirtations and romances which can then lead to sexual sin, all which is adultery. And even if the addict is purportedly working on overcoming their addiction, if they choose to flirt with temptation, and if they go places on the internet where they have been tempted and given into sin before, they most likely will give in to sexual and immoral sin again.

“Now therefore, my sons, listen to me,
And pay attention to the words of my mouth.
Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths.
For many are the victims she has cast down,
And numerous are all her slain.
Her house is the way to Sheol,
Descending to the chambers of death.” (Proverbs 7:24-27 NASB1995)

So the encouragement here for all is that we listen to God and to the teachings of the Scriptures and to Godly counsel and wisdom and warnings so as to keep ourselves pure and to not deliberately choose our sin over God and over our spouses. For temptations abound everywhere we look these days, and so we must “set our faces like flint” in unwavering determination to not give one inch in the wrong direction but to remain steadfast in faith and in walks of righteousness in surrender of our lives to God, to not sin.

We cannot and should not “play with fire,” i.e. take foolish risks. Curiosity leads many people down dark paths. And if we accidentally click on the wrong link, we should immediately get out of it. And if an advertisement or a link to something on social media of questionable character should show up in our feeds, we should X out of them. And we should not accept “a little dirt” in anything we see on the internet or on TV, for the purpose of being entertained. A little dirt can lead to a world of sinful practices. Be wise!!

For Our Nation

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.

Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.

Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.

Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
