But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. Hebrews 7:24-25 NLT
If you’re familiar with the Old Testament system of sacrifices, you know that the priest’s role was to serve as a sort of mediator. He bridged the gap between God and sinners who wanted peace and His forgiveness. In that system, people would bring their sacrifices to the priest, who would present them to God. It was an imperfect system, but one that foreshadowed what was to come.
Jesus came to be the perfect priest. He serves as the one true mediator between His perfect heavenly Father and sinful human beings. What’s more, while all Old Testament priest died, Jesus lives forever and stands before the Father pleading your case.
Today, men turn to counseling, to religion and to doing good things for others in order to find relief from their guilt and shame. Then again, nothing and no one except Jesus can give you peace with God, forgiveness of sins, and the assurance of eternal life in heaven.
Because Jesus lives, you too can live forever!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for pleading my case before God the Father. Thank You for providing the way for me to one day stand forgiven, cleansed, and pure.
