Police officers in many parts of the world now routinely wear a bullet-proof vest as part of their standard uniform. Troops of a number of nations are regularly equipped with "flak jackets" when they go into combat. But what about Christians? What do we have that helps to protect us from the endless barrage of evil influences that Satan fires in our direction?
Consider:

"Finally, be strong in The Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of The Spirit, which is The Word of God. And pray in The Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (Ephesians 6:10-18 New International Version)

So what do we have to protect us?


The belt of truth.
The breastplate of righteousness.
Feet fitted with the readiness of the Gospel of peace.
The shield of faith.
The helmet of salvation
The sword of The Spirit.

Prayer.
God did not "draft" us into His Christian Church and then send us off into spiritual battle without the equipment that we need to win the war. If we use what God has given us, eternal victory is a choice, not a chance.

Thank you for this powerful verses.

Someone help me study these verses, I keep on asking myself or does anyone know why Paul said The BELT of truth, why belt? It could be Helmet or breastplate. Or why HELMET of salvation, why Helmet? Same to Breastplate of righteousness. Is anyone getting what am trying to say. When the bible says something then it must have a great significant about it, why should we put truth around our waist? Salvation on our head, why?

Let the word of God dwellin us richly.

If we take each element for its natural usage their relationship to spiritual warfare could make sense.

Ok let’s use common sense for this, I’m no theologian.
In a battle a blow to the head can be very detrimental let’s look at Goliath for example.

Now spiritually the battlefield is the mind, we know this because every evil deed springs from a thought that later develops into an action.

2 Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
‘ For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song;
He also has become my salvation.
Isaiah 12:2

How is one saved ?

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Confessing to be a Christian is one thing, but to believe in the benefits and privileges we have received makes the battle easier, because we know who we are in Christ.

Not wearing your helmet ?

2 Corinthians 11:3
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.


Sword….well this is easy unlike all the other pieces of armor this is our weapon.

Hebrews 4:12-13 1
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.


The Belt….whats the fuction of a belt, it holds the garments together, keeping it in place. Back then the men wore dresses, so as a lady I can tell you its hard to run in one, its only possible when you hold the skirt up so your legs can have room to run.
Now lets put the puzzle together. To be able to run towards your enemy you would need your belt to hold the garment in place. Without a belt, the soliders can not be swift, therefore giving the enemy an upper hand.
Now Spiritually it’s impossible to put on any armor of God without wearing the belt of truth. What can the helmet of salvation do for a person who doesn’t know Christ. You can’t have one without the other.

John 8:32
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

We wear the belt of truth to prevent us from tripping into false doctrines, we wear the belt of truth so we can be swift when the enemy attacks.
Most importantly we wear the belt of truth because it holds everything in place.

Shield protects us from whatever our opponent launches at us.
"Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench
all the fiery darts of the wicked."
Ephesians 6:16
So the enemy decides to play a little mind game with me, reminding me of all my mistakes , failures and troubles during a situation I’m in.

Why should I grab my shield ?

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5 -6
If I put all my faith and trust in God, he will direct my path( take control of the situation )

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay
hold on eternal life, whereunto thou
art also called, and hast professed a
good profession before many witnesses."
1 Timothy 6:12

1 John 5:4-5 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our[a] faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

2 Chronicles 20:20 ……..Believe in the LORD your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.


The Breastplate covers the body (not the limps ), it protects everything that is important to the body or to us.

Spiritually the breast plate of righteousness, to me represents the new man that we are told to put on. Yes we have accepted Jesus as our savior but spiritually a new body is needed. To cover our flesh our sinful nature we need to put on the breastplate of righteousness.


Romans 8:9-11
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.


Ephesians 6:15
15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace

Our feet takes us places , we meet different people of different cultures and religions whom we wished to share the gospel with.

Why do we need these special shoes....walking in peace?

The root of peace is love… Matthew 22:39 niv
39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.We need to walk in peace with others.
Last but not lest, when in battle is a blessing to know the peace God gives.

John 14:27 niv
27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
