Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was judging Israel at that time. Judges 4:4 NKJV
During the time of the Judges, Israel had its own Joan of Arc and Rosa Parks in the person of a woman named Deborah. Strong men shook in fear, but Deborah gathered people to her and offered God’s comfort and counsel. When God’s message came to attack Israel’s enemies, she didn’t hesitate to issue His command to the man He had chosen. And when the day of battle dawned, she helped Barak lead the charge.
Deborah was not a glory seeker. She was ready to step up, however, to any task God gave her. If God called her to settle disputes or proclaim His Word or mobilize soldiers, she did it. She did whatever God called her to do—for His glory and for the deliverance of His people.
Deborah demonstrated a determination to obey God immediately and face difficulties courageously. Whether listening to disputes, marching into battle, or singing a victory song, she always urged the Israelites to put their trust in God.
Ordinary people living ordinary lives of obedience to God can inspire others to great deeds. What step is God calling you to take?
Prayer: Lord, You want me to obey You and inspire others to great deeds. Who do You want me to inspire today?
