A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom. Title of Psalm 3 NIV

Why was David a man after God’s own heart? Perhaps because David’s every heartbeat pulsed in rhythm with God’s own. Few thoughts crossed his mind that did not find their way to David’s Lord. His conversation with God was rarely put on hold and never abandoned with disinterest. No matter what happened to David, God was the first to hear about it.

David called out to the Lord for mercy when his reputation was attacked (Psalm 4:1-2).

He pleaded with God for compassion when he was weak in body and sick of heart (Psalm 6:1-3, 6).

He expressed marvel and wonder as he spent the night under the sky—and told God how he wondered at the exaltation of humanity (Psalm 8:3-4).

He questioned the Lord when he felt like God was far away and wicked people were getting away with murder (Psalm 10:1-6).

David’s heart lay open before God in anguish, grief, joy, and exaltation—every emotion expressed to God in prayer. David spoke his heartfelt prayers to God, and later God gave his prayers back to humanity as part of scripture.

Whether you echo David’s words, or express your own thoughts and feelings, you can share your whole heart and life with the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, transform me. Like David, I want to share my heart with You in any and every circumstance.

It never occurred to me that we could share whatever happens to us with God. For the bible to say that David is a man after God's own heart says a lot about David.

Hello Rexy,
Certainly we can talk with God, and we should. He wants to hear from us, whatever the issue happens to be or just to pass the time.
You can find different places in Scripture where certain people "walked with God". He is our Father, but He should also be our confidant in all things. Who better to talk with then one who listens, and offers Himself, His Son, and Holy Spirit as intercessor and guide in the good times and bad? :)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
With the Love of Christ Jesus.

You are welcome Nick. The Christian life is becoming an amazing journey as I get to know God more. It is just fascinating trying to understand who God is. Imagine people from all over the world praying to God at the same time. He hears and answers each and everyone of us. What a God.
