Are you a Christian if you don't believe in the eternal Triune nature of God?

Active
Jesus proved HE is the eternal Son of God and God the Son, one of three in the eternal Triune Godhead of Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Are you a true born again believer if you reject the triune nature of God?

What do you mean by "born again believer" ??
there is a lot more to being born new again then simply believing in the Trinity of God.
Roman Catholics, Orthodox and Lutherans believe in the Trinity of God, but I would not describe them as born again churches.

Church is simply an assembly. The Body of Christ, or the Church of Christ, is the collective body of believers in every assembly around the world. Some members of the RCC, Lutherans, Orthodox, are in the Body of Christ. Similarly, there are members of assemblies that assemble within many other denominations, i.e., pentacostals, charismatics, assemblies of God, Baptists, Episcopalian, etc, etc, etc, who are not part of the Body of Christ. They're the unsaved, just like those in the RCC, Lutherans, and Orthodox that are similarly unsaved.

The trinity doesn't always have to do with "the triune nature of God". So this isn't really a good question.
For example we have several modalists here on TalkJesus, they believe in one being (not three beings) who manifests as three different natures.
Sometimes he manifests as the father, and sometime he manifests as the son, and sometimes he manifests as the spirit.
But they don't believe in three distinct separate beings. So they don't believe in the trinity, even though they believe in the "triune" nature of God.

The question was does a person need to believe in the triune nature of God to be a Christian?

More the point -- if a person does Not believe /denies that truth -- nature of God can that person be a Christian. // A born again believer.

A born again believer is a person who has been born physically -- that means they are alive -- born Again means being born Spiritually. Accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

In John 3 -- that's what Nicodemus was confused about. He Thought that a person would have to be born Physically a second time from his mother's womb. But Jesus explained it was a Spiritual birth.

@Waggles -- a church is a building where the group of people gather to worship God in. The building is not what gets saved. It's the individual who either accepts or rejects Jesus Christ as their personal Savior

Being a particular denomination does Not save anyone. It's where a person places their Faith. And That needs to be in Jesus Christ's shed blood on the cross. And His bodily resurrection on the 3rd day.

There is the need to acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Modalism was considered a heresy in the early church. Not surprising that pentacostal denominations hold this view. God exists in three eternal persons. Period.

I do not hold that view, nor does any Pentecostal that I know of. I was merely stating there are some people here that do.

Even the Jews before 70AD believed that Yahweh had two natures
one that often appeared and interreacted with men, like Abraham and Gideon, and one Yahweh that seemed to remain in Heaven yet spoke to the other Yahweh.
This was denied as rabbinic teaching and became heresy after 70AD with the rise of Christian doctrine that Jesus is the son of God and God.

Getting born can take lets of painful hours. :) After we are born it takes 20 to 60 years for us to mature. We are in different stages of development/maturity physically and spiritually. Thanking the Lord i am not the at the same maturity level 50---60 years ago.

Over the years having met Christians who like my self, have outgrown or grown into different denominations or different understandings of Scripture. I do believe as Christians mature we find we have some vital things in common. We may use different verbiage God the Father God the Holy Spirit God the Son is one of those things.

There are significant doctrinal differences between churches and faiths.
My understanding is that the Jehovah Witnesses do not believe Jesus to be God prior to his incarnation here on Earth; he ascended to heaven and became a god.
also, maybe it is the JWs, who believe Jesus was an angel and a brother to Lucifer - sons of God verses ??
As for the Holy Spirit most denominational and evangelical Christians have no idea whatsoever concerning the third person of the Trinity.

Three throughout the bible denotes the end of a matter. Two is the witness of God . Two attributes are used to distinguish the government of God. ( eternal Father and a Son )

The use of the words “nature of God” must be defined. God is not a man as us in that way he is supernatural without nature or a beginning.

A nature is that which makes something what it is, those attributes that define it. For example, the divine nature is marked by divine attributes such as omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence, self-existence, eternity, and so on. To have a divine nature is to possess all the attributes that make God who He is.

Hebrew 7:3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Many try even today to make God into the nature or likeness of man the foundation of the Greek gods. They did not mix faith in what they saw.

Acts 14: 10-12 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

We are made in the likeness of God according to all the attributes that make God who He is.

His name is Jealous as another attribute. It applies to the father and Son immutable attributes. He wil not share his glory with flesh

Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Lucifer is not called a son of God. Sons of God speak of those born again from above they are alone are given a new spirt that wil rise on the last day under the Sun .

Lucifer as morning star was to protect the glory of God’s creation, a morning star a reflection of the light coming from the father . He usurped that position as the father of lies .In doing so opened the avenues of this world system. Pride before the fall .

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Isaiah 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Jesus as the bright and morning star is shown as one light working with the father . H unlike Lucifer the false light protected God who is light. And not just that he can create it temporally. God is not a man as us.

Revelation 21: 23;24 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

Jesus Is Equal with God
Joh 5:18 For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

Joh 5:19 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.
Joh 5:20 "For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.
Joh 5:21 "For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.
Joh 5:22 "For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,
Joh 5:23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
Joh 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
Joh 5:25 "Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
Joh 5:26 "For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;
Joh 5:27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.
Joh 5:28 "Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,
Joh 5:29 and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.

Joh 5:30 "I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
Joh 5:31 "If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.
Joh 5:32 "There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.
Joh 5:33 "You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
Joh 5:34 "But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.
Joh 5:35 "He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.
Joh 5:36 "But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.
Joh 5:37 "And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.
Joh 5:38 "You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent.
Joh 5:39 "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;
Joh 5:40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
Joh 5:41 "I do not receive glory from men;
Joh 5:42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.
Joh 5:43 "I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.
Joh 5:44 "How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?
Joh 5:45 "Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.
Joh 5:46 "For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.
Joh 5:47 "But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"

This whole passage, in fact the entire chapter really is about Jesus being equal to God. There is more about this in a thread called "Witnesses to Jesus".

For nearly 15 verses Jesus is telling them, who He is. When we get to verse 34, Jesus says I tell you these things... "that you may be saved".
The inference here is, if you don't believe in the deity of Jesus, you aren't saved.

Matt 16:13; Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
Matt 16:14; And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
Matt 16:15; He *said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Matt 16:16; Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Matt 16:17; And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
Matt 16:18; "I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

Now of course Romans Catholics think Peter is "the rock" here. But actually the rock is the belief that Jesus is "the Christ, the Son of the living God".
Jesus says He will build His church upon this belief. If you don't believe Jesus is God, that He is "the" Son (uppercase S) of God, then He doesn't consider you
to be in His church.

Jesus said not as I will but as you empower us to do it Father . The Father in the greater position not a greater person .
