Are some allowed and some not?

I read this book, and it stated that some of us (referring to Christians) can do things but other Christians won't be allowed to do the same thing.

It didn't give examples, if so I can't remember them, but in my experience I have learned of a Christian man who has been in the bar drinking beer, this is only one example, of the top of my head, so when I first thought this may have been wrong, as I know of another Christian man who said on being found in a bar not drinking alcohol, felt pricked that it was not a good witness for Jesus, as someone, an unbeliever, commented to him, that that was the sort of Christian he would like to be if he were one.

This then made me think about what it said in that book.

In Deuteronomy 1 v 37 37
Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.
With reference to Moses, and him not being allowed to cross into the promised land, but Joshua was choosen instead.

What do you all think of it, 'Some allowed, some not?
Are there any more places in the bible were differances have been made like this?

I guess I stick with what Paul said about not causing another brother to stumble. if it's ok for you to eat meat but not another, have respect for that. Would you ask an alcoholic to be your designated driver at a bar? I would hope not. Okay, maybe that's drastic, but we all have temptations that are hard to handle, and it's better for us to stay away from it period.
It could also mean speaking up for yourself at some point. If I have a problem with people cussing, I can choose to do something about it: Stay away from the people who I know do it; when I hear a friend do it, ask them not to when I'm around; or say nothing. Will it cause me to stumble to be around this person or this situation? If so, I need to stay away. Are you sensitive enough to know if you are causing anyone to stumble around you? I don't want to be responsible for that in my life. Hope this helps.

Certain things I would choose not to be part of, not because it would tempt me, but because I don't see it as were I want to be, it was part of the 'old me' so that has gone, therefore I don't still want to participate in those same things.

The story that you are referring to about Moses not being able to bring the people across to the Promised Land is a foreshadow about Christ Jesus. In that story Moses represents "a sinner". And Joshua (the name is a varient of Yeshua), represented Jesus Christ. A man cannot save (moses could not bring them over - save them - a Savior had to do that), a man can only preach the gospel to the people. Joshua brought the people to the promised land representing that it Jesus Christ saves. When a person believes on Jesus he has crossed over from death unto life (new testament).

The bible is our roadmap of what we can do and cannot do. To listen to others opinions doesn't count. Only God's word counts. When we read it, it says that it is like looking into a mirror. It says in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word of God will convict us of our errors all by itself. If we see a brother or sister in error there is a protocol to follow. Matthew 18:15 says Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

And again: Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Galatians 6:1

So whatever concerns you, and what you can do and not do, read the word of God, pray and ask the Lord to show you what pleases him.

I do not have any concerns over what I can or cannot do, I thank Jesus His Holy Spirit witnesses with my spirit and is very clear on these issues.

It must be slightly, to say the least, confussing for my husband though, he is unsaved as yet, and it is him who sees what goes on amongst us Christians, he goes to Church with me, so he has got to know them.
Then he see's one doing something that I won't participate in, I told him I can only answer for myself, I cannot answer why others do or say things that I dont.

We all have our own personal walk with Jesus.
That's why it's 'personal'

What took place was not against me, and I was wondering wether or not I should make him aware that what he did could be causing a stumbling block for the unsaved, but then I decided if the opportunity arose when I next saw the person in question I would speak if the Holy Spirit gave me unction too, it didn't arise, so I left it, was I wrong to?
I say again it was not a direct transgress toward me, although in my heart it was something I would not have done.

I don't know what my husbands thoughts are about it now, I never persued the matter with him.
I think he sees bars and drinking as the 'old self' and we are a new creation.
