Approach Boldly

"From now on, no Israelites except priests or Levites may approach the Tabernacle. If they come too near, they will be judged guilty and will die. Only the Levites may serve at the Tabernacle, and they will be held responsible for any offenses against it. This is a permanent law for you, to be observed from generation to generation. The Levites will receive no allotment of land among the Israelites, Numbers 18:22-23 NLT

Imagine being told that you could not enter a sanctuary for worship ever again—that only pastors and ministers could do so, and that this was a binding law for the rest of your life. After getting over the shock, it might give you a sense of God’s holiness. Before Jesus took on flesh and dwelt among humanity. God could only be approached by the priests.

Praise God, Jesus made approaching the Father not only possible, but, as the writer of Hebrews says, He made it possible for us to “come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:16NLT).

After you’ve sinned, do you shy away from God, embracing an old covenant mind-set? Or do you make it a practice to boldly approach the throne to receive mercy and help when you need it most?

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Jesus, who made it possible to approach You boldly. And thank You for Your mercy and grace!
