"Have you not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made for yourselves priests, like the peoples of [other] lands, so that whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of [things that are] not gods? 2 Chronicles 13:9 NKJV
The people were being called out. They were in the grip of sin. It was a condition they had been in for a long time. They had moved from Disinterested Drive to Anarchy Avenue. It was a move that did not benefit any person. God was still God. His power was not weakened in any way by their reaction. He could make them followers, but they had to volunteer their hearts. With their hearts out of reach, they couldn’t think straight.
It was like an angry crowd, but they weren’t sure why they were angry. They elevated nothing and made it something to worship. They found people who thought like them and made them their preachers. The world had turned upside down, but some thought it was completely normal. This was a time of delusion and spiritual blindness. One thinking voice called to a crowd of those who refused to think. The truth meant they had been living a lie.
You could use the word ridiculous, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Yet this kind of thinking exists to this day.
Prayer: I don’t want to become trapped into believing that You are whatever I want You to be, Father. May everything about me strain, yearn, and long to acknowledge You.
