But the king insisted that they take the census, so Joab traveled throughout all Israel to count the people. Then he returned to Jerusalem 1 Chronicles 21:4 NLT
Bad ideas are just that—bad ideas. Sometimes the one who has the idea can’t see any reason to deviate from their bad decision. Teens can hear their parents say no, and they still want to accomplish their bad idea. You probably have had those moments.
You can read about a bad decision King David made in today’s scripture reading in 1 Chronicles. But you may not need to know what that decision was to be able to identify with the king’s lapse in thinking.
David had made poor choices before and would do so again, but each of those moments was a reminder to think before acting, to ask God to help him with the decision, and to invite Him to change his mind.
God can use other people to ask you to think, and He can use His Word to instruct you, but it’s hard to make you do the right thing when you have a tendency to say no.
You can even be temporarily convinced that you don’t need to make good choices, but that always ends in regret. Some of the consequences for this lapse in judgment can last a lifetime.
Think. God want you to. Really. He does. Think.
Prayer: You gave me a mind for a reason, God. Help me use it to think, reason, and make decisions that show that I understand that Your plan is always best.
