God desires that His children live an abundant life. John 10:10-The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it more abundantly. But what is an abundant life in the eyes of God? An abundant life in the eyes of God is a life that is focused on the mission God has given us. As a born again believer, God has called each of us to do something for Him that will advance His kingdom on earth.
God gives each believer the wealth to carry out His mission. God will make the mission loud and clear to every believer. We either accept the mission or reject it. There will be consequences no matter how we choose. The mind cannot comprehend what God can do in a person's life if he/she would just yield to the Holy Spirit, the Helper Who dwells within. If Jesus Christ is your Savior, then you should have a desire in your heart to tell others about Him, because He has put that desire in you. His desires are becoming your desires and His mission is becoming your mission. He will use your mouth, hands, and feet to accomplish His mission. He will show you what to say, how to say it, what to do, how to do it, and where to go to carry out His mission here on earth.
The abundant life God has for us is found in the mission He gives us. Should we accept His mission, He will give us wealth to accomplish it and a joy, peace, and contentment that comes from no other way. Only born again believers realize that the wealth God gives us the ability to make is to be used to carry out His mission. Yes, God wants us to enjoy material things, interesting places, and delicious foods; but our main interest should be on the mission He's placed in our heart. God gives each of us a different mission, but the goal is the same; teaching others about Jesus Christ and what He did for us at the cross.
Have you examined your checkbook lately to see how you spend your money? Matthew 6:21-For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. After you pay for the basics; food, shelter, and clothing, how are you spending the extra money you have left over? As a born again believer who is growing in the knowledge of the truth of God's word, we should be seeing less of our money going towards worldly things and more going towards our mission. The abundant life God desires for us we can have when we use the wealth He gives us to support the mission He gives us.
God gives each believer a different mission based on the skills, talents, and abilities He gave us before we were born. 1 Peter 4:10-As we develop these abilities and grow in God's Word; He reveals to us His mission, specifically designed for us. Our wealth is used to finance our mission. You may be giving of your money to your spouse, your family, your friends, your neighbors, your church, your community, and your favorite charity. These are all good ways to help others and we should be doing them because they please God. But, the giving of your money to support your mission should be first priority. Matthew 6:33-But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Mark 16:15-Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. When we're busy carrying out the mission God has placed in our heart; we will experience God's supernatural love, joy, peace, hope, power, and wisdom-this is the abundant life.
Father, thank you for Your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Help us to spend our money wisely. May we support the mission you've given us as we go out into the world and teach the Good News. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
Love in Christ,
Jan
