Hi all,

My name is Neil. I am 25 years old. I am a teacher in Hillsboro, Oregon. Love to laugh and meet new people. So introduce yourself if you ever feel like dropping me a line.

My personal story regarding my Faith.

I was raised in a Christian home, though my Mother was really the only family member that was "active" in her faith. I got baptized when I was 10 but I wasn't really into scripture or anything like that until just recently.

I found myself living a lifestyle in college that had me constantly convicted of numerous sins. While I never gave up on faith completely, it certainly waned in the college years. Long story short, once I left college, I decided to put that part of my life behind me for good.

I had felt this "tug" at my soul for quite some time, but I really only started to answer that call late in 2006. In December 2006 I moved back in with my parents to finish up graduate school after living in the dorms (yuck). When I moved back into my parent’s house, I naturally started talking with my parents more often. During this time, I began to talk with my mother (who is incredibly knowledgeable and faithful) about Christ. We began to discuss scripture (which I knew very little about at the time) and she told me about her personal journey with Christ. I found myself becoming more and more curious about Jesus, scripture and my "walk" with God.

At the time I was finishing up Graduate school. I was student teaching at a high school in the Portland area. In class one day I was walking around the class, the students had finished their assignments and were just kind of hanging out with a couple minutes left in class. I talked to one of my students, and the subject of family deaths came up. She began to tell me about an experience her grandmother had. Her grandmother had died, but was recessitated after 3 minutes. After her grandmother had recovered, she told her granddaughter that when she was dead, she had gone to heaven and seen Jesus. Jesus had told her grandmother that it was not her time yet. I know that it sounds like a strange way to come to faith...I can't really explain it...but I had this overwhelming sense that this had happened and that her grandmother had spoken with Jesus. I felt so out of sorts for the rest of the day after that comment. It’s hard to explain, but I credit that moment and experience for really driving me and motivating me to getting to know Christ better.

Anyway, I could go on and on, but long story short, I am an ACTIVE Christian now and though I still struggle, and I still feel like I have a long way to go, I have built a solid foundation for my faith and I can’t seem to get enough information about Jesus, Evangelism and scripture. I would LOVE To go on a mission one day, and eventually get involved in some group in the Portland area that works out in the community helping others.

If anyone ever feels like talking or whatever, just drop me a line on here.

God bless,

Neil

That grandmother had a rare but commonly heard experience. I've heard ample stories of the same death experience. Its such a beautiful thing to hear ironically, even though we're talking about death. Generally, we're talking about seeing our own Creator face to face and returning to life on earth temporarily!

Welcome to the forums brother. GOD bless
