“One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to meditate in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4 NASB1995)
“The house of the Lord” today is not a physical building built by human hands. So when you go into a building which they call “church,” you are not entering into the house of the Lord. And you are not standing on holy ground when you enter into what they call the church sanctuary, or worship center, as I was taught in my youth. A building is just a building regardless of what name you give to it, for God does not dwell in buildings built by human hands. He dwells in the human hearts of those who are surrendered to him.
[Acts 7:48-50; Acts 17:24-25; John 14:23; Ephesians 3:17; Romans 5:5]
The house of the Lord now is not a physical place, but it is spiritual. It is the church (not a physical building or location), the body of Christ, the body of believers in Jesus Christ who have died with Christ to sin and who are now to be walking in obedience to our Lord’s commands. We, the body of Christ, are now where God dwells by his Spirit. We, the people of God are his church, not a building, and not a church denomination. And we can gather together anywhere appropriate at any time of day, any day of the week.
So, to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives is to be in genuine biblical relationship with Jesus Christ via God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Jesus Chris whereby we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but now as slaves to God and to his righteousness. We are now his temple. And even if someone builds a “third temple,” it is still not our Lord’s temple, for we are and always will be his temple on this earth.
Now some people believe that if they make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ, or if they verbally confess him as Lord, and believe in his death and resurrection, that they are now saved for eternity regardless of how they live. This is based on a Scripture taught out of context (Romans 10:9). But if we read the Scriptures in their context we will learn that faith in Jesus Christ is something that must be continuous, and it must be shown as genuine by us dying to sin and us walking in obedience to our Lord’s commands.
For, as the Scriptures teach, if sin remains our practice, and not obedience to God, we do not know God, we are not in fellowship with him, and we do not have salvation from sin and eternal life with God. We must continue in Christ and in putting sin to death, by the Spirit, and in walking in obedience to our Lord in surrender to his will if we want to have eternal life with God when Jesus returns for his faithful bride. So don’t believe the lie which says that a one-time profession of faith in Jesus assures you of eternal life with God.
For Jesus Christ taught that to come to him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in his power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).
For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).
The grace of God, which is bringing us salvation, is training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives while we wait for Jesus’ return. For Christ “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.” “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (See Titus 2:11-14; Ephesians 2:8-10)
And we learn in 1 John 1-3 that if we claim that we have fellowship with God, but yet we walk in darkness (sin), we are liars. If we claim that we know God, but we do not obey his commandments, in practice, we are liars. For it is not the one who claims he is “in Christ” who is “in Christ,” but it is the one who has denied self, died with Christ to sin, and who is now walking in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in practice, and no longer in sin. We have the hope and the promise of eternal life with God in heaven.

Bombs are bursting. Night is falling.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Trust Him with your life today.
Make Him your Lord and your Savior.
Turn from your sin. Follow Jesus.
He will forgive you of your sin;
Cleanse your heart, made new within.
Men betraying: Our trust fraying.
On our knees to God we’re praying,
Seeking God to give us answers
That are only found in Him.
God is sovereign over all things.
Nothing from His mind escaping.
He has all things under His command,
And will work all for good.
Jesus Christ is gently calling
You to follow Him in all ways.
Men deceiving: We’re believing
In our Lord, and interceding
For our nation and its people
To obey their God today.
He is our hope for our future.
For our wounds He offers suture.
He is all we need for this life.
Trust Him with your life today.
