All Power Belongs to God

“Once God has spoken;
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God;
And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord,
For You recompense a man according to his work.” (Psalm 62:11-12 NASB1995)

God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit – has existed always. And he is the creator of all who have been given the breath of life by God. And he is completely sovereign and in control over all that he created. And yes, he allows both the evil and the good to exist. And he allows evil people to commit evil deeds, even sometimes against his beloved followers. For if we believe in Jesus Christ, we are promised that we will suffer as he suffered, and that we will be hated, mistreated, and persecuted as he was, too.

But, in all that we are called upon to endure for the sake of the name of Jesus, and for the sake of his gospel, and for our own good, to humble us, to teach us holiness, to teach us love and compassion toward others who are hurting, and to make us more like Jesus in character, God is still the one in control. All the power belongs to God. And we should be looking to God for our help, for our support, for answers to our questions, and for him to lead us in the path of righteousness and to show us what he has for us to do.

We should not be looking to other humans to show us the way in which we are to go, or to be our “saviors” to deliver us from evil. We should not be followers of human beings, giving them our devotion, fidelity, allegiance, loyalty, and reverence (worship). Yes, we have to obey our governing authorities and the law of the land, and we have to obey our employers in what they tell us to do, unless they are commanding that we do something that is sinful and that is against the will of God for our lives.

But we are not to be looking to our governing authorities to be our saviors or to keep us safe from harm or to be those who speak the truth and who truly care about us and want what is best for us. Many people in positions of authority and rule over other people, including many pastors of churches, do not have our best interest in mind. And many of them are liars, deceivers, manipulators and con artists who get people to follow them, but they are pied pipers, in reality, leading the people to their deaths. Only God is God!

So, we are not to put our faith, hope, and trust in human beings. And we are to be wise in discerning errors of doctrine and faith so that we do not get caught in a snare, or in a web of deceit, and then begin believing the lies and not the truth. And no matter what we are going through personally, or what we are going through as people of nations under leaders who may or may not have our best interest at heart, we need to give control of these situations over to the Lord, and trust him with our circumstances.

And when this says here that God recompenses (rewards) us according to our works, well that is taught to us in the New Testament, too. And we are taught in the New Testament writings that if we claim to know God, but we do not obey God, we are liars. And if we claim to be in fellowship with God, but while we make sin our practice, we are liars. For if sin is what we practice, and not obedience to God’s commands, then we will not inherit eternal life with God, regardless of our professions of faith in Christ Jesus.

So, put your trust in God, and not in other humans. Give your circumstances over to God and trust him to work them all out for your ultimate good, as God calls good. Trust in the sovereignty of God over your life and do not fret if things begin to look bad. Obey God. Do not deliberately and habitually sin against the Lord. Follow the Lord wherever he leads you in being and doing what he has planned for your lives. Commit your ways to him. And pray for spiritual discernment so you don’t end up believing and following the lies.

He who gave salvation to you;

Sue, I like a lot of things that you write. But this particular sentence has got to go. When I read that the first thought that came to my mind is, you're talking about yourself as well as anybody else. If that sentence is true why should I listen to you? Why should anyone listen to what you have to say?

When God instructs another person to write something down, how in the world is anyone else supposed to know that God has told that person to say something.

The very same thing is also true with the Gospels because guess what Sue, those were all written by men too. Yes Jesus inspired them, but they had to write it down.

I think what you're trying to say is not to take on the teachings of men that don't follow the gospel, otherwise what you wrote was foolishness.

Bill, we can certainly learn from other people. The point is that our dependency should not rest in what any other human teaches. We should test everything against the teachings of the Scriptures to make certain that what we are hearing lines up with the Scriptures. Also we should get our guidance from the Scriptures. We can certainly listen to the counsel of other humans but we should not be looking to them to be God's voice to us. So we should weigh everything against the Word of God.
