There was a poll, which today I posted a comment on (the poll itself is closed) about Christians in government.

However, for different reasons I would like some input on a similar topic. I support two charities (both Christian) that in their different ways encourage supporters to campaign in the political arena: sign petitions, write to Members of Parliament, write to various political figures in certain countries.

It is an area I am strongly keen to be active in, and I have also started to post comments on a newspaper website.

Is this right? I do believe we as Christians should stand up for the poor and disadvantaged, to be the "voice of the voiceless". I am also aware that it was the likes of Christians such as William Wilberforce and John Newton that brought about the end of the slave trade in Britain. But equally, surely the Gospel message is what is most important?

Also, is this right for me. I have heard from the Lord, as I believe, a number of times, that He wants me to "strengthen the Church". Is this movement I am making into more political areas a distraction, a temptation away from God's will for my life? Or is it something I should move along with?

Love in Christ,
Mark.
