Someone has wisely said, “Don’t fall into the trap of studying the Bible without doing what it says.” That’s a great paraphrase of today’s scripture verse, which warns believers not just to know the truths God has provided in the Bible but to act on them as well.
Sadly however, too many Christians fail to act on what they know. The result is stunted spiritual growth and knowledge of God that is far less than what He desires in each believer.
Knowing what the Bible says to do but not doing it can be likened to knowing what it takes to be physically healthy. It takes eating right, getting plenty of exercise, and making sure you get enough sleep. If you fail to do those things, however, your body and mind won’t operate at peak efficiency…and eventually will break down.
Today’s verse tells Christian men how to get and stay healthy spiritually. Read what the Bible says—and do what it says.
Prayer: Lord God, Your written Word is filled with truths to affirm, commands to obey, and examples to heed. As I spend time reading and meditating on these things, transform my mind with Your wisdom. I don’t just want to know what You’ve said, but I want to act on it as well.
