Acai Berries and Acai Berry Juice -- What Are the Health Benefits?

Have you heard about the acai berry? Do you want to know more about the health benefits of acai berries and berry juice? Acai berries are highly touted by marketers who say it’s one of the elite superfoods with anti-aging and weight loss properties. Some manufacturers use acai berries in cosmetics and beauty products. But do scientific studies support these claims of acai benefits?

What is the acai berry?

The acai berry is an inch-long reddish, purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree (Euterpe oleracea), which is native to Central and South America. It is a relative of the blueberry, cranberry, and other dark purple fruits.

Research on the acai berry has focused on its possible antioxidant activity. Theoretically, that activity may help prevent diseases caused by oxidative stress such as heart disease and cancer.

Is the acai berry healthy?

Acai contains several substances called anthocyanins and flavonoids.
The word anthocyanin comes from two Greek words meaning “plant” and “blue.” Anthocyanins are responsible for the red, purple, and blue hues in many fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Foods that are richest in anthocyanins -- such as blueberries, red grapes, red wine, and acai -- are very strongly colored, ranging from deep purple to black.

Anthocyanins and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help defend the body against life's stressors. They also play a role in the body's cell protection system. Free radicals are harmful byproducts produced by the body. Eating a diet rich in antioxidants may interfere with aging and the disease process by neutralizing free radicals.
By lessening the destructive power of free radicals, antioxidants may help reduce the risk of some diseases, such as heart disease and cancer.

Are there known health benefits of acai berries?

Some studies show that acai fruit pulp has a very high antioxidant capacity with even more antioxidant content than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry. Studies are ongoing, though, and the jury is still out.

People eat acai berries to address various health conditions. But so far, acai berries have no known health benefit that’s any different than that of other similar fruits.

Can acai berries boost weight loss?

Scientists are learning more about the functional power of superfoods, such as the acai berry. Although acai is touted in some weight loss products, few studies have tested the benefit of acai in promoting weight loss.

For now, plenty of research supports eating a diet rich in antioxidants. There’s no doubt that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet promoting weight loss. The jury’s still out on whether there is something special about acai’s ability to shed excess pounds.

Why are acai berries used in beauty products?

Some cosmetics and beauty products contain acai oil in the ingredient list. That’s because acai oil is a powerhouse of antioxidants.
Studies show that acai oil may be a safe alternative to other tropical oils used in beauty products such as facial and body creams, anti-aging skin therapies, shampoos and conditioners, and other products. When acai oil is processed and stored long-term, the antioxidant levels remain high.

Do acai berries and acai juice have any side effects?

If you have pollen allergies or have a known hypersensitivity to acai or similar berries, you may want to avoid this fruit. When eaten in moderate amounts, though, acai is likely safe.

Please do go to a reputable local Health Food Store if you are considering trying Acai Berry. Do not purchase anything on line, I was scammed big time and there was nothing I could do about it because the actual company is in China so they were not under the laws of the US regarding fraud.
Please be sure to read the list of ingredients carefully if purchasing one of the many choices at the Health Food Stores. There are some excellent products out there in the Health Food Stores. Also, stay away from a particular product being sold in a Pyramid type of selling by individuals. The product is 87% water.
I did an extensive amount of research on this because I was having some severe symptoms. Unfortunately for me I ended up finding out I have an under active Thyroid and a nodule on my Thyroid so even though the Acai Berry did help me a little it didn't help me enough.
Just thought I share my research with you all in case anyone was considering it and if anyone wants to know the brand I purchased, just PM me and I'll tell you.
God Bless

I manage a vitamin and supplement store and acai is a sore spot for me, personally. Truth: The acai berry is a very powerful antioxidant that helps protect the cells against free radical damage. Since this requires less effort by the body to repair cells, the acai could be indirectly credited with helping boost energy levels that help someone trying to lose weight have a greater capacity for physical activity. What the acai berry is NOT is a single entity weight loss cure as it is perpetuated by Dr. Oz and the like. Most acai weight loss products are much more than acai and the main cleansing or metabolism boosting ingredients are things like green tea, caffeine, etc..

Tip of the day: The word "acai" is pronounced "ah-SAI-ee"

So, what I get out of this post is, it wouldn't hurt to take this if you want to loose weight, and need the energy to do it, right? Just so you don't take this vitamin expecting it to cure a medical problem you have, like diabetes or something. But, if it helps me by boosting my energy (I work ten-hr. days at a day care center), then it wouldn't be a waste of money, right?

My wife also got scammed with an online "free trail offer". They shipped more than a few products to us we never asked for and we never did really get all our $'s back.
They do not answer the phone and will keep sending stuff if you do not take measures. We decided to change banks so they could not pull off any unauthorized charges on our bank account.

In not so many words, yes... But don't expect a coffee-like jolt of energy... It's more of a gradual and progressive effect... BUT, antioxidants have shown promising evidence of helping provide added protection against cancer, cardiovascular disease and the like...

Quotes From the WebMD website

"you'll probably loose more money than weight"

"Acai is a nutrient-rich source of antioxidants, much like many other fruits, but there is nothing magical about the fruit to cause weight loss," says David Grotto, RD, author of 101 Foods That Could Save Your Life.

Acai juice does contribute antioxidents but less so than Concord grape juice, blueberry juice and black cherry juice, according to a recent analysis* that used 4 different antioxidant potency tests. It contains more antioxidants, however, than cranberry, orange and apple juices.

Until more is known and the hype (and price) go down on acai berry juices and food products, you can always pick up a bottle of 100% concord grape juice for a couple of bucks (just saying)... Each 8 ounce serving contains 170 calories, 42 grams carbohydrate, 250 mg potassium, 20% daily value for vitamin C and copious antioxidant-acting polypenols that have been linked to all sorts of good things for your body.

A friend of mine got an offer of a free trail , but called me up first to ask had i heard much about it, two minutes in Google and i seen it was a scam.

As for weight loss, it is just another herbal product put out on the market to take your money and in return give you a lot of disapointment, if you want to lose weight, eat healthy and exercise its cheap, easy and by far the best way for you and your body.

All these herbal supplements have some goodness but real fresh fruit and veg has way more and will give you everything you need.

God Bless and Much Love xx:shade:

My take on this one, is 1) It was designed by GOD, rather than man, so it is likely to be good for you. 2) Don't buy it from online sellers, but rather find a store that sells it and buy it there. 3) If it is weight loss you are seeking, try to get in the habit of eating one meal a day. (Snacking permitted within reason).

Acai Berry.

Chad is correct. Acai is a pretty awesome fruit. The problem is that it grows in tree's and very expensive because the quantities to mass produce some form of juice to where there is enough acai to benefit you is almost impossible without paying lots of money for it.

V8 Acai and any other Juice you can get at the store is going to be loaded with salt and sugars. Their juice is mostly apple concentrate, and no where near the amount of acai to do anything for you.

There is no way to compete if you make a Juice fully based on fruit like Acai. It would cost to much to make, and people are to price minded when your high quality version is 10.00 more than something else that says acai.

Amazing but Acai kills cancer cells...........

There are some alternatives like ..... Because of the cost it is distributed over a MLM network, and could never compete in Walmart. It's not cheap, but the real deal and loaded with other exotic fruits (like 17 of them) This juice is very healthy for you.

You have to sign up as a distributor or buy it on e-bay. I would suggest buy it from a distributor and not e-bay. It's a fruit juice and perishable food item.

Acai can heal you!!!

NO!!! God is the healer. Because of the powerful antioxidants and other things in Monavie, it has caused lots of healing testimonies. Healed of cancer, healed of High blood pressure, and so on.

Lots of these can be verified, but it's not the super juice exactly.
What happens is someone starts taking the juice and their body gets things that it has needed for a long time. THINGS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE

So, your body goes into repair mode because it has what it's needed. You can get the same effect by staying out of McDonalds (Food of death) and eating a variety of fresh fruits and veggies. Problem is, nobody is doing that as they should.

Also if you get something like Monavie, The distributor educates you on salts, fats and keeping your body filled with fruit. So, many that are willing to spend the money on juice, make a life style change. This also is added to the effect of better health.

What can Juice like Monavie with acai do?

Not really much of anything you can't get from fresh fruit at the store. It will not make you loose weight. Only by burning more than you take in can do that. It does boost energy levels and helps with sleep. Outside of that there need to be more scientific studies.

If you can't afford something like ...... (30.00 a bottle) then fresh blueberries are about as good and powerful. Beware of getting Acai from the internet or the store. most of it contains very little acai and is loaded with sugars and salt to make it taste good. Bad tasting juice does not compete well at the supermarket level.

Acai is a great berry, but it's just a fruit that is not going to help much without the added lifestyle change.

Jesus Is Lord.
