Abram vs Abraham

God appears before Abram in Genesis 15:1 – 6, and God tells Abram that he was his shield, and exceeding great reward. Abram tells the Lord “what will you give me, since I am childless , and the steward in his house would become his heir?” The Lord tells Abram this will not happen, for he will have his own son, that would come from his own bowels. Then the Lord takes Abram outside and says...

Gen 15:5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, SO SHALL THY SEED BE.
Gen 15:6 And HE BELIEVED IN THE LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

One of the first things we must have as a Christian is to believe IN God that he EXISTS as it tells us in Hebrews 11:6

Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God MUST BELIEVE THAT HE EXISTS and that he rewards those who seek him.

Abram had no problem in believing God existed. He believed IN GOD, but he did not believe in what God said to him about Abram's seed being as numerous as the stars in the sky. We know this is true because Abram tried to help God out by doing it his own way with his wives servant, and having a son born after the flesh. There are many people in the Church who believe IN God, but not all believe in what he has said concerning them.

To be able to have faith in a person requires hearing the Word of God often, not just once. As the Bible tells us, that if we truly have faith we would speak the Word of God out of our mouths. Jesus said “if you had faith as a seed you might say...” We having the same spirit of faith according as it is written we believed therefore have we spoken, we also believe and therefore speak. (2 Cor 4:13) Faith always speaks what God has said.

The lord God wanted Abram to speak what he (God) had said to him, about his seed. Abram never did!!! The Lord then changed Abram's name to Abraham, which means, “the father of many nations” Finally, every time Abraham said his own name faith came, because he was now speaking exactly what God had said. Every time someone said Abraham's name faith came, and every time Abraham said his own name faith came to Abram.

Abram did not believe in what God had said to him about his seed, but Abraham did!!!!

Gen 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
