Word of Warning
Whilst reading from Jeremiah this evening I had a profound sense that the Lord was speaking. The king of Judah, Zedekiah, sought that the Lord would deliver him from the Babylonian invaders.
Previously, the Lord had sent much word of warning through Jeremiah the prophet, but the kings and the people ignored him, and actually put Jeremiah in stocks and mocked him.
So the Lord did not heed when they pleaded for mercy.
Yet He gave this word to the king of Judah:
"Administer justice every morning,
rescue from the hand of his oppressor the one who has been robbed,
or My wrath will break out and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done -
burn with no-one to quench it.
I am against you, Jerusalem,
you who live above this valley on the rocky plateau,
declares the LORD -
you who say, "Who can come against us?
Who can enter our refuge?"
I will punish you as your deeds deserve,
declares the LORD.
I will kindle a fire in your forests
that will consume everything around you"
This, today, is a word for Britain. The wealth and military cannot save. A wholesome repentance and a return to the Lord is required. Justice must be done to the poor that have been oppressed.
