And He said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece. Luke 9:3
When Jesus sent His twelve apostles throughout Galilee to preach the Gospel, He had them depend on the hospitality of the Galileans to provide their needs. So the Twelve stepped out minus the usual travel gear and garb. Later He asked, "When I sent you out…did you need anything?" They replied that they had lacked nothing. "But now," he said, "take your money and a traveler's bag" (Luke 22:35-36).
There will be times in your life when the Lord will tell you to count on others' help and generosity--and you need to trust that they're going to come through for you. There will be other times when the Lord requires you to trust Him alone, and not put any confidence in careful planning or safety nets. However, usually He requires you to make practical preparations, work hard, and earn money to pay your own way.
Whatever God has you doing, trust His wisdom, and remember that ultimately, He is your Provider. Stay in tune with God, and trust Him to tell you when to do what.
Prayer: Lord God, I pray that You show me when I am to make as many preparations as I can, and when I am to simply trust in You to provide for and protect me.
