Your name, O LORD, [endures] forever, Your fame, O LORD, throughout all generations. Psalm 135:13 NKJV
The unknown author of this psalm praises God for His goodness, His sovereignty, His control over the weather, and His justice. When you consider the Father’s absolute power and majesty, it’s difficult to do anything other than praise Him.
As a member of the family of God, you have different priorities than you did prior to conversion. You went from caring mostly about your immediate wants and needs to caring about praising the Lord for redeeming you, and then obeying Him. As a political leaders rise and fall, and as culture shifts from one set of “truths” to another, you think more about God’s enduring name throughout all generations. As such, the salvation of the next generation is always on your mind.
What are you doing to sow into the generation behind you? Are you disciplining hungry new believers? Are you teaching them in some capacity? Are you engaging in conversation with them? They can grasp and then run with the baton of faith only if you hand it to them. But handing it to them is just the first step.
You need to train them to run for the long haul.
Prayer: Lord often, my thoughts are not on training the next generation. Change my heart, oh God. Give me opportunities to speak to the generations behind me about Your enduring name.
