But we are not like those who turn away from God to their own destruction. We are the faithful ones, whose souls will be saved. Hebrews 10:39

You can’t earn salvation by your own efforts. God gives eternal life to you as an underserved gift. Also, once you’re saved, it doesn’t become your job to keep yourself saved; God keeps you saved (see John 10:28-29; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10).

But some Christians suffer anxiety, worrying that they’ll “lose” their salvation for some sin. After all, Jesus said in Matthew 24:13 that “he who endures to the end shall be saved.” Some Christians also worry about 1 Corinthians 9:27 where Paul speaks of disciplining himself to ensure that he didn’t become “a castaway” (see also John 15:6).

However, Jesus said, “The one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37). Your salvation isn’t like so much pocket change that you casually lose. Scripture indicates that people must knowingly, completely renounce their faith to be “fallen from grace” (Galatians 5:4; see also Hebrews 6:4-6).

However, if you love God but constantly feel unworthy and worried about your salvation, be at peace. Remember that God has promised, “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
