He is the LORD our God. His justice is seen throughout the land. He always stands by his covenant--the commitment he made to a thousand generations. Psalm 105:7-8 NLT
This history of Israel in the Old Testament can be maddening to read. God’s people often turned to idols and engaged in all sorts of wickedness, including practicing sorcery, consulting mediums, and worshipping foreign gods. Generations of His people would forget Him and do what was right in their own eyes before a generation would finally turn back to Him.
There was a time when God overlooked ignorance. In Acts 17:30 Paul points out that “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,”.
Amazingly, through Israel’s time of ignorance, God remembered His covenant and remained faithful to humanity, even though they didn’t deserve it. Now that Jesus has come in the flesh and revealed the heart of the Father, He is indeed calling believers to a steadfast life of courage and obedience—to live differently than the rest of the world.
Prayer: Father God, I can identify with Israel. Sometimes I am hot in my faith journey and other times I am cold. But You call for a life changing repentance. May I submit to the Spirit’s leading to show the world what it means to live a consistent Christian life.
