can anyone point me to passage(s) about army from the NT?

You're not going to find much.

If you think about the situation that the New Testament writers were writing in, then it is easy to understand why.

The early church was mostly made up of people living under the occupation of the Romans. There was only one army, and that was the Roman army. Signing up for military service was a non-issue for most people - it would be taking sides with the enemy.

The army today is still a very negitive enviornment for a christian not because of the fact that you might have to fight but because of the outragious behavior of alot of its membership and when you are in the military you have little choise of your assiciation within the military so you could potentially be subjected to some very evil treatment and it can very well break down your spirtuality. There are christians in the military the problem is you can go join the "christian unit".

The question is, is it an army of God to go to war for godly reasons or a heathen army going to war for political gain. I would say we have gone to latter in this day in time. We are no different from the romans.

Matt 24:6

I think this qualifies. Got to have an army to go to war. :magnify:

I was in the military, I know your type and I know how to deal with you. I know the abuse that the military perpetrates while putting on a smile in the recruiting office, I know the mentality the whole nine yards. I dont have a problem with people who want that lifestyle and I believe you can still be a christian in the military but dont try to sell the miliary as being honorable when most of it is far from it. Hey at least this thread is about the army so we are not to far off topic lol

OK...

Now you've really shown yourself to be an arrogant ignorant student.

God bless you with understanding

With what military did you serve with? Did you go to another country and witness some of the wrong doings yourself?
What did you see perpetrated on people? I'd like to know what you saw. And what is the mentality?
I have a couple sons who like the idea of the military.

I think the majority of the military people are there to serve honorably for our country.

There are of course going to be a small percent who are obnoxious, or worse, belligerent at the core of who they are.

Thanx, LoJ

There has been armies since the OT days. If God has ordained them, then we can follow them under Him.
As long as they don't conflict with God.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

I was in the army national guard in USA, and my observations were simply from basic training and pre-OCS. I seen things like the PTRP, people being recycled in basic which is designed to only be a few months becuase they know full well that that type of abusive enviornment is mentally unhealthy. I have seen abuse of the federalization clause for the national guard, deception in recruiting and contracting, some of the things in a military contract (that are in "fine print") would never fly in the rest of contract law and ethics, most notibly the execution of stop loss policys. The military does this so politicians can save face and not have to institute a draft which would guarentte they get kicked out of office so they take advantage of people who wanted to do there honest 4 years and get out. When you speak out against such practices while within the military you get the whole montra of you signed on the dotted line and it begins to sound like a broken record. I thought the movie stop loss was a good indication of how far the military was willing to push people, granted it was dramatized to some extent but if you try to get out the military will royally f your life up and I consider that to be dispicable, evil and dishonorable.

Israiel in the O.T. saw God fight their battles........Jesus was a Jew.....the bible was written by Jews.....all the rest.....that it US.....You and I....are a supplement to the plan of God......Grafted in...Hallelujah

Momentarily.....your friend should contact the Israel Embassey.....and express his desire

God Bless You......He will

It is beyond me why anyone would want to go up against God, all through out the bible God has won, why would the palistinians be any different. I dont understand what is going through someones head when they decide to go up against God.

Im I sorry I couldnt reply earlier, actually we (me and my friend) had discussions about some of Jesus/NT points of view and their similarities to his specific religious group/movment (I cant find the exact term its complicated)
unfortunatley I might have been wrong or confused but it seemed that what I was looking for is somwhere in the NT also from some articles of MJ's..

N-E-way I scanned the NT time and time and time again, asked a very religious christian friend but we coluldnt find anything really related to what I tried to show my friend during the discussion (altough in another topic I found but it was less important in the discussion)..

oh well I am sorry I interrupted or something.. (again I cant find the word for some reason)

thank you for your time and help..

Firstly, Semper Fidelis(Or Semper Fi) is the slogan of the United States Marines: And when translated means "always faithful"

Romans 12:18

"If it be possible, as much as lieth with you, live peaceably with all men."

In other words, when forced to fight, you will. if there is no cause to fight, ten let there be peace, while you live.

What is not worth fighting for? The last word, to be better, more money, these are among those. However what many argue, instead, is what is worth fighting for.

In many a case, place two brothers in the same area, no matter the case, if one gets into a fight the other will also join in, because of they wish to protect each other. take for example two friends, they may hesitate to join in, but will never leave them to fight own their own. Like the Army vow "I will never leave a fellow soldier behind."

Love, and friendship are two that we have so far, how many more in this course? Freedom, as listed above, the reasons listed in the US Constitution. There are many other things we hold dear and love, these are the thing worth fighting for, when threatened. However if it is, an object that can be replaced, there is no need.
