"Don't lay a hand on the boy!" the angel said. "Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son." Genesis 22:12 NLT

God put Abraham’s faith to a test most couldn’t imagine facing. God asked Abraham to offer his young son as a sacrifice.

Could Abraham face such a loss? Would he object? Would anyone blame him if he said no? Abraham had learned that God could be trusted even when he didn’t understand. So this aging father walked with Isaac to Mount Moriah. He built an altar and prepared for the unthinkable. Abraham proved himself willing to do what God asked.

Enduring faith made Abraham courageous. God wanted to see if Abraham was willing to trust. Just before Abraham reached the point of no return, he heard the welcome words, “Don’t lay a hand on that boy!”

This story serves another purpose. Jesus was God’s promised Son. He would become the rescuer of mankind, but that meant sacrifice. And in His death a heavenly nation opened to mankind.

Christians have citizenship in a forever home because when Jesus bore the brunt of mankind’s worst affliction, He was able to rise once more to put out the welcome mat to new family on their journey home.

Prayer: God, no matter how hard things may be for me, I have never had to face the choices You made because You love me. Let this good news change me.
