A New Heaven And New Earth
We can look at Revelation 21 for a biblical description of the "new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away" (v.1). The greek word translated "new" (kainos) stresses that the earth God will create will not just be "new" as opposed to "old". It will also be different. Paul uses the same greek word in 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Cor 5:17 (KJV). It speaks of a change in quality. The new heavens and earth, like our newness in Christ, will be glorified, freefrom sin`s curse, and eternal.
Scripture doesn`t tell us what the new earth will look like, but we have a reason to believe that it will in many respects be familiar. Jerusalem will be there- Albeit an all-new Jerusalem. John`s description concentrates on the Holy City, which has streets, and walls, and gates. John also mentions a high moutian, water, a stream, and trees. Best of all it ispopulated with the people od God- real people we will know and with whom we will share eternal fellowship.
All Things New
The new earth will also be utterly different, unfamiliar. John says, for example"there will be know more sea" (Rev 21:1). That`s a significant differance immediately, because the current earth is covered mostly with water. Some Bible scholars think this stresses the erasure of all national boundaries. Others point out that the sea symolized fear to the ancients, so they believe the absence of sea im[lies the absence of fear. Both may be true. In the new heaven and earth nothing will make us afraid, and nothing will seperate us from other people. The only water described in heaven is " a pure river of living water, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb: ( Rev 22:1). The crystal-clear flows right down from heaven`s main street (v2).
Revelation 21:3-7 outlines the most remarkable features of the New Heavens and New Earth:
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son
Rev 21:3-7 (KJV).
Here Scripture promises that heaven will be a realm of perfect bliss. Tears, pain, sorrows, and crying will have no place whatsoever in the New Heaven and New Earth. It is a place where God`s people will dwell together with Him eternally, utterly free from all the effects of sin and evil. God is pictured as personally wiping away the tears from the eyes of the redeemed.
Heaven is a realm where death id fully conquered (1 Corinthians 15:26). There is no sickness there, no hunger, no trouble, and no tragedy. Just absolute joy and eternal blessings. It is frankly hard for our minds, which have never known anything but this sinful life and its calamities, to imagine.
May the Lord bless you and keep you in His tender mercey.
