Have you ever carefully listened to and observed a man when he becomes a father for the first time? It isn’t hard to see in that man a completely new way of thinking and behaving. He’s now focused on someone else, and his selfish ways are replaced with behavior that benefits the new object of his love.
When a man first begins his life of faith in Jesus Christ, the same thing happens, but on an even more profound level. Where before he was focused on his own pleasure, he now is focused on doing whatever it takes to please God and grow in his relationship with Him. His attitudes change, his words change, and his behavior changes—sometimes very quickly and sometimes over time.
This side of heaven, none will achieve sinless perfection. But when you have God’s Spirit within you, your thinking changes—and you head toward holiness with great purpose.
Prayer: Father in heaven, thank You for bringing me into Your eternal family. Continue daily to cleanse me of my sinful desires. May I conduct myself in a way that pleases and glorifies You.
