Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself: 1 Kings 2:1-3 NKJV

When the time drew near for Solomon to take the throne as king of Israel (after David’s death), David encouraged his son to walk in obedience to God and obey all His laws and regulations from the Law of Moses.

King David was very far from a perfect man, but he was able to learn the lessons God had taught him through his many mistakes. David knew Solomon would face the same kinds of temptations he faced during his forty years as king. Despite his weaknesses and mistakes, he wanted to leave Solomon a legacy of obedience to God.

God wants you to establish that same kind of legacy—for your children or for others. You can do that when you commit yourself to obeying and loving God with your whole heart, mind, and body.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, David offered his son Solomon some great advice for life: obey his God in every way. That’s wise counsel for me too. May I live a life of obedience every day and every way.
