A Kingdom Divided
It is never more clear than at election time that these words of Christ are so true. "Every kingdom divided against itself is ruined. A house divided against itself falls." These poignant words apply not only to our government, but to our businesses, our families, and our churches as well. Divisions based on strife, kill. Americans have pledged to be, 'one nation under God', but are we?
All of our differences and unique attributes tend to polarize and divide us during times of transition. And so it is with families and even churches. When it's all smooth sailin', no problem. But it's so easy to start fighting and blaming when an unexpected storm catches us by surprise. Oh, but isn't that just when everyone on board is needed to work together as a team to keep the boat afloat? I may be right and even justified in my position, but do I wanna drown to prove my point?
These pivotal times occur in families during seasons of change and stress. Like during unemployment or graduation or relocation or birth or death. But they also occur at growth phases such as adolescence or marriage or retirement. Hey, if you're not changing then you're not alive. (just look at a rock!)
Jesus made it clear that one of the unique marks of true believers, is their love and acceptance of each other. He even prayed for our unity. Are we gonna be the church that prevails over the gates of Hell, or just another kingdom divided against itself? Let's let love cover a multitude of differences and show the world we are His disciples by our love on for another. Remember the song, "We are fam-i-lee"? God be with us all...
