Now when he was in affliction, he implored the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed to Him; and He received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD [was] God. 2 Chronicles 33:12-13 NKJV

King Manasseh rebuilt the high places Hezekiah had broken down. What’s more, he raised up altars for the Baals, made various horrible idols, practiced witchcraft, and more. But everything changed when he was hauled into Assyrian captivity. There he cried out to the Lord for forgiveness. The Lord heard him and did something completely unexpected—He reestablished Manasseh’s kingdom.

Manasseh was a different man when he returned to Jerusalem. He removed the idols, repaired the altar, and reinstituted sacrificial peace offerings. His response to forgiveness was amazing. He began to walk with the Lord and his behavior completely changed.

Your past probably doesn’t include witchcraft or idolatry, but you can easily recall behavior that was displeasing to the Lord. How has your life looked different since the Lord heard your initial cry for forgiveness? What have you removed from your life?

If the Spirit has prompted reminders of current behaviors that need to be changed, repent and walk with the Lord anew.

Prayer: Lord, whenever I see such a clear difference in a person in the scripture, it reminds me that I’m not always as quick to show evidence of the transformed life. Forgive me, Lord.
