1 samuel 15:3, a loving God?

How can I follow a God that tells a person to go forth and kill women and children as in 1 samuel 15:3? Just like the islamic faith! Why are these mideast religions all so violent and intolerant? think I'll switch to Buddhism, they were here before Christ and are far more kind and peaceful
